Got a memorable long shot to share?

Distance, crosswind, bullet, gun, scope, bipod etc.

I nailed a sitting Jack in the neck a few weeks back, 340 paces straight up 10km wind, .222rem 50gr Prvi factory ammo, harris bi-pod, Leupold VX-II 9 power.

Last year I nailed a Jack right in the nose on a full out 60km crossing run, 225 paces, shot from my knee, lead it 5 feet, no wind, Ruger M77 tang safety .22-250, 55gr Sierra Gameking, Bushnell Elite 3200 on 5 power.

Many other nice shots but these ones I remember most, way way more misses...

Anyone got a glorious long shot to share? Anyone got video?...kinda fun
 
My most memorable shots were made with the humble .22LR. Some were downright amazing. I don't pack a rangefinder when shooting critters and I am not much of a meteorologist so I can't offer much info about the conditions...
 
the one I remember was a canada goose with a 22lr. Was trapping rats on the river with my father when a flock flew over. Was a ridiculous distance. Anyways down came one spiraling with a broken wing. Landed in the brush just off the river ahead of us. My dad just shook his head. Was a nice fat spring goose and was delicious. Was many years ago and I was maybe 10 years old so cut me a little slack.
 
535 yard coyote with a 55BT in the 22.250

Longest with the .22 LR was a crow at a guestimated 175 when I was about 14. I remember thinking that I had missed, then a second or so later, Whap! Very surprised to say the least.
 
running full bore fox at 75 yards, offhand using a target Winchester 52. when i was 14 (it was rabid and had my dad on its ass with a pump 22 about 100 yards behind trying to keep up. )
 
Running coyote at 200 yards. Friend was calling coyote in with call. In deep snow on a hill watching coyote harrass deer, January in South Saskatchewan. He eventually became interested but would not approach closer than 350 yards. Hunger & curiousity overcame common sense, and was hurried in with a mouth squeeler. Wind shifted @75 yards, coyote swapped ends and starts flat out run. Crest of hill was the known distance of 200 yards, I was holding on the back of his head, when he made the mistake of looking back over his shoulder, when I broke the trigger.
The 222 sent the Hornaday SX into his RH eye socket. He was running almost directly away from us.
One dead dog.....
 
My longest shot was New Years Eve of last year. Went out with my cousin and saw 2 coyotes standing in a field below. There was too much snow for the range finder to work so I used the NP-1RR reticle in the NXS to guestimate the range. I guessed him at 850 with the reticle and dialed it up. First shot was about a foot under the first coyote. One took off into the creek and the other one froze. I held over and was just above the second coyote with my second shot. He took off and stopped again to look around at what was happening, so I took my third shot. Dead coyote! After adding the MOA holdover to what was already dialed he was approximately 910 yards. I was shooting my 7mm. STW with 150 gr. Nosler Solid Base leads chrono'd out at 3206 fps in Nosler brass. I was prone with a bipod and ~10 mph wind from 12:00. My longest shot to date!
 
I've killed gophers at 375 yards with a .22LR. Not first shot mind you, but walking them in. best one shot kill on a gopher with .22lr is around 325. Heavily modded 10/22 in a light breeze, bipod over the roof of my truck. I'd been nailing them at 200+ for a few hours, so a little longer wasn't too tough... You get to know the conditions pretty well.

Longest .223 on a gopher is about 450 yards.

:D Two of my favorites were on gophers... the one gopher was a dead run run when we spotted him, all I had was an SKS that we were shooting some old drums with. She was loaded with FMJ. I dropped to one knee and let fly, I hit him in front of the ear and the FMJ cut the both ears and skull cap off him.

The other was on a gopher with an old .22lr. I'd say 125-150 yards. I just took a quick freehand shot and the bullet bounced on the ground a few feet ahead of him and the fragments hit him square in the head.

Nothing incredable, more luck than anything, memorable all the same.

Nothing like posting illegal and unsafe practices for all to see. Yes shooting a rifle up into the air is a real show of safe gun handling not to mention it is illegal to hunt waterfowl with a gun shooting a single projectile. I would go so far as to bet you didnt have a migratory permit either. Fall before last a guide in Quebec was killed by a guy shooting a 22lr who shot at the decoys thinking they were real. Killed the guide laying in his layout blind. Guys like you and him are what make hunting waterfowl in a decoy spread a scary proposition at times!!! Way to go HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad:
 
My most memorable coyote kill was this fall. About a 200m Texas heart shot on a coyote running straight away from me. Got him with my .30-30.

Gopher at 271 lasered meters with a CZ453 Varmint in 22lr. 3rd shot, wind at that distance was carrying the bullet a bit over 4 feet. First shot, 4 feet left, second shot maybe 6 inches left. Third shot nailed him.

Also got a rabbit at 250 meters again lasered, first shot.
 
Ground hog 300 yards. .22-250 55gr vmax.
165 yards 2 crows 1 shot .17hmr.
40 yards cooey open sighted removed head from sparrow on purpose with a .22 short.
 
Pretty boring, but a single shot took a gopher by my well with an iron sighted .22, my well is 220 yards from the house. He was silloutted on the mound, and I held way over and into the wind (I 'ping' that steel well cover from the house from time to time with the .22 for fun, so the hold was fairly automatic). I've made longer shots with different guns but that was my 'best' varmint shot. The gopher fell over, and behind the mound but from the house without optics it looked like he ran off. Went down to the well later, wham right through the tiny rib cage.
