That reminds me to build another twenty for the training camp in march.
Well its definitely not a science but hit a plate of what you know is mild steel with a center punch and hammer and take note of how easily you can mark the plate and how deep. Then try the same thing with the piece of steel you suspect to be of a higher grade and you will very quickly and clearly be able to tell if its any harder. The harder plate wont mark nearly as easily or as deep. It wont tell you if its ar500 but it will show you how much harder the plate is.
Right on.Put a little less bottom on them this time if you can.

They are now welded at the back of the base plate so they tip over easily when hit.

Anyone know how AR400 would stand up to a 338 Lapua?
Thats all that I have found around here. 3/8 and 1/2 inch.

If I remember correctly AR500 is not much harder than AR400. QT400 is a little harder than AR400, I might be wrong its been a while since I looked this stuff up. 1/2" QT400 should work but it also depends on how far you will be shooting.

The 400 stuff is still kinda pricey. I hate to spend the money on a science project and find out it doesn't work.
Maybe I would start out at 500 yards for the 338 and go out further.

General Steel in Edm had a 4x8 sheet of AR400 about two weeks ago. Can't remember exactly the price as I was able to source it a bit cheaper though a non retailer. Having some enemy sillouettes made from 3/8'' AR 400. Will see how it stands up to 300WM.

I have a 30 lb shooting rest that was sent up from Sinclair and spent $176 US on shipping. My only consolation was I couldn't get anything like it up here.

Guys, if you're serious go with AR 500. I have experimented with others such as QT 400 and others. Go with 500.

I have a line on some AR 500 targets.

Check with CGN supporting dealer "biggerair" He makes gongs in multi-diameters using 1/2" AR500 steel and also offers a pretty nice self-resetting popper style target. I've dealt with Frank and he is good people with great prices and you pay only actual shipping.
