I've been in contact with FNH Belgium about purchasing 150 rifles for import to Canada, and it's not looking good so far...
So with the US not willing to export to Canada, and Belgium out of the picture at this time only a lucky few Canadians will have these rifles. And of course that will only be after the RCMP stops dragging their feet on the FRT..

Sorry for late feedback since it seems that your message has taken quite a long time to reach me.
We thank you for your interest in our product range.

Indeed, US made SCAR family of rifles is not authorized to be sold in Canada.
Explanation is to be found in company's decisions / policy.

We have already been requested several times to offer these items to dealers in Canada but have always come to the conclusion that it is not workable for several reasons including major price difference due to currency exchange rate, spares part availabilities etc.

We are currently adressing the matter for other markets as well.
Maybe things will change on mid-term baisis but this needs to be confirmed at a later stage since many elements are part of the equation.

Indeed, it's an "assault-battle carbine", since it also has a telescoping/folding stock!

BTW: anyone know what kind of scope that is?

I never really understood her point on that as well. I'm pretty sure that FNH could sell the scar 16s & 17s internationally for a very tidy profit and still be able to satisfy their customers wants and needs. The exchange rate comment makes no sense at all, but based on her previous emails it could be that her English sucks.

It's actually "his" previous emails. Stéphane is a male name.

Edit: Just so you don't call him a she, that might make it even more difficult to import :p
 
Okay, I am gonna reveal my naivety on this one but I gotta ask. I don't know much about these rifles, or FN in general. I know these rifles look great, but what makes them a great rifle?

I would appreciate someone bringing me up to speed.

I can confirm the he is in fact a "he" and not a "she" ;)

We've been dealing with him for over a year (in person and by phone). FN Belgium has no interest (at this time), in selling product to Canada, EXCEPT for military product contracts with the Canadian governement... the Military business they continue to pursue... but not Commercial sales.

Too bad you can't go through a European distributor in another country?
