I had several hearing protection muffs by Peltor, and figured when time is right to buy expensive electronic pair, I will go Peltor again.

Well, I got top of the line Peltor Tactical Pro by mail today, and no go.
Way too tight on the top, would probably be fine for someone with smaller noggin, but not for me.

Interestingly enough, other Peltors fit me just fine, but this unit is built for egg shaped heads, where mine is more large and round, and I also need large ear cups.

I wish these muffs came in different sizes, like small, regular and large, but I don't think that to be the case?

What are your experiences with electronic protection muffs, just want what is best out there, hearing loss can not be reversed.

Does anyone else have Peltor's electronic muffs?

How about Pro Ears?

Any others that you would recommend?

I've been looking around for a pair of electronic muffs and would be interested in your findings.
I currently use the low profile (shotgunner?) muffs because they feel more comfortable when shooting rifles.
However, not much hearing protection indoors beside the guy shooting .44magnum rounds.
I guess I could also stick in a pair of foam plugs with the muffs.

I got the Pro Ears, rated to -34 db. However, they are a little large, but work great. I never saw the point of getting electronic muffs, and having to double plug.

From time to time, for IPSC competitions, I have used just plugs when there was a large distance to run, or needed to get my head really close to a barricade or floor. Otherwise the Pro Ear muffs are great, but expensive.:yingyang:

johNTO, I got those Shotgunners as well, and once I got Peltors, I realized how bad Shotgunners were.
Peltor Ultimate 10 are excellent passive protection, but I am looking for electronic ones now, so that I can hear RO commands better.

Dan-O-Mite, are those electronic ones, as I noticed that best that they have are rated for 33db.
Price over $300 if I recall correctly. Where did you buy yours?
Large is fine by me, do you mean it as in -large and thick muffs, or -large loop frame with comfortable fit for larger heads?

Though not the most sound proof. the MSA Sordins Pro X's are nice performers.

Sometimes I double up with Surefire EP4s when indoors.

Doesn't Surefire EP4 stick out far enough to interfere with MSA Sordins?

I am also considering Howard Leight's ear protection. Did anyone try those?

the surefire ep6 are real good, very comfy, really good letting low volume in and keeping high out, and they are low pro to use with helmets. they are actually made for drag racers but i love mine. although get a few pairs as i find you can wear them out in a few months. only 15 bucks or so.

I really like the Howard Leight. I bought two sets, and we've been using them for over 1.5 years without replacing batteries. These are thin-profile, so can be used for trap shooting. Only rated for -24dB IIRC, so I double-up with foamies when shooting indoors.

I also have the non-electronic ProEars -34dB but I find them to be too bulky, and still not quiet enough to be used on their own indoors.

I have the Peltor Swat tacs (Com tacs same thing but different color). I absolutley love mine and they fit my head (have about 1/4"-1/2" of adjustmentstrap left on IDPA ball cap). They are -20db; they work really well otuside, but I am not sure about inside. The recovery time is phenominal; I can have a conversation while other people are shootign and I lose very little of the conversation. The batteries last quite well, they are asy to repalce, and they turn off after 2 hours if not adjusted. I sued them 2 years ago as ear muffs during hutning season; you would be suprised how many deer you get near that you never see :).

Those Howard Leight seem quite popular and price point is good. I guess only way to really find out is to try them.

Interestingly enough, I was just reading reviews on these Peltor Swat Tacs, and moments after that, you posted here.

They seem to be quite pricey, around $300 dollars in USA.

Really?

I find they do not interfere at all with Sordins or Peltors that I have tried.

Actually they are a really good product. and they provide pretty good protection on their own.

+1. I like mine but they don't tame the sting of my 7mm mag. Browning A-Bolt Boss without foamies. They are fine for pistol and shotgun and are very comfy to wear and can be used with a ball hat. And they're inexpensive; got mine from Cabela's US for $55.

I had a pair of the Peltor 6S tacticals and it was total garbage. I hated mine, but I got it off eBay. It didn't have any trades on it, and the seller told me it was OEM for special applications. In hind sight I think they may have been knock offs. I would have to see another pair for comparrison.

I was lucky enough to have been issued electronic Peltors in the military, and they absoulutely rock. The ones we had were low profile, and you could hear regular conversations like you're wearing nothing until a gunshot then, a small pop ! and back to normal. But, I think those are are 300$+ to buy. In a pinch foamies, or the rubber dildo cheapies, are fine. But, you get what you pay for. For fun shooting in the back forty I use a cheap pair of foamy yellow army ear-plugs. But if I had the cash, and did serious competition shooting, Peltors are the way to go. My 2 cents..

i went with the med and they do the trick, im you average sized guy, 6' 180 pounds. although im not sure if the other sizes fit better cause i havnt even tryed them, but i was told the actuall difference in size is very very minor

Perhaps I was mistaken, I got them over 3 years ago, they might be 33db. But yes, they are the electronic ones and the muffs are large as they use the CR123 batteries. As for the loop, they should be plenty big enough for anybody that I know. These are not tapered on top like some I have seen, but a nice round curve to them. The material used to seal around the ears is great too, even with my glasses on they still make a great seal, I have wire frame glasses. I bought mine right from Pro Ears, got the number off their web site.
