Came in today. This is the 4-16X50 EBR-2 MRAD second focal plane reticle model. I haven't shot it yet, but I might get some range time this weekend--MIGHT. Have a look...

First impressions are good. The power adjustment ring has a "stop" at each marked power setting, and a multiplier on the opposite of the magnification setting so you can do the math to use the subtensions on the reticle. The reticle is very fine, should be very user friendly for long range stuff. The reticle can be illuminated, with 10 different intensity levels with an off position between each brightness level. Side parallax adjustment knob, and a Customizeable Rotational Stop on the elevation turret so that you can set up for your "zero" distance, and as you move further back and need to dial in corrections, the turret will not go past the zero setting when you want to return to your zero distance. All this with an unconditional lifetime warranty! Not too shabby!

Oh yeah, it looks way cool on top of the custom Savage that Sean at North Shore Barrels built for me!

Nice looking scope, it was between this one and the sightron i bought for me..Let me know how it shoots cause I bought the Sightron lol

2nd focal plane is the way to go from what I'm told. How do you find the illumination? How's the eye relief at 16X?

I notice it says Vortex USA on the side. Did you order it special out of the states? I'm curious if the ones we'll be able to buy retail will have that stamp too.

She's gorgeous, thats for sure. Wish I had one

Second focal plane is great for target shooters who want a fine reticle that seemingly shrinks in relation to the target as you crank up the magnification, whereas the first focal plane reticle is better in a tactical situation because the reticle and target stay the same in relation to each other as the magnification is changed. This allows the shooter to use the reticle subtension to range the target regardless of the power setting on the scope.

No I did not order this scope out of the states, it came through the Canadian distributer. All Vortex scopes say Vortex USA somewhere on them.

I am really looking forward to trying this scope out at the range. I might get some time on Monday, but the rest of the weekend looks busy right now.

What features might those be?

The Sightron has models with higher magnification, 1/8 MOA clicks, and a target dot stlye reticle. I think the PST is a great scope for tactical and target work, but it is not the best in every situation. I am told however that the features listed above are coming in the Vortex line, hopefully for 2012.

Wow that is sweet !!! I never knew they had a stop at each magnification level. Super cool.

Can you do me a favour and post the math for each level of zoom?
Thx

Select the model you want (Link) and go to reticle and there is a PDF file that should answer your question.

My bad. I thought you were comparing pizdets' 6.5-20 Viper to a similar Sightron, in which case the magnification and 1/4 MOA clicks would be similar.

Sweet rig Crashman. The flush crown looks interesting. The scope is awesome. Thanks for bringing it in to the shop. (I hope you got John on board.)

PS- Let me know when you have time for a little range session. I'm really itching to cough a few pills down range.

Crashman, have you tried this scope yet? How can you compare it to Sightron SIII?

Sadly, work and the weather keeps me from the range. :( When i have a day off, the weather sucks, when the weather is good, I am a million miles from any range! So I have yet to try this scope, and, I have no personal experience with Sightron so I will refrain from commenting on how it compares. However, looking through the PST I am happy with the clarity, brightness, field of view, and the overall quality and workmanship of this scope. If it performs well as I would expect it to, it will be a very good value.

Earliest possible range time will be sometime next week. I am going to call in sick (this helps when you are self employed!) and spend an afternoon at the range. Just me, my 260, and my newest little friend! I will report back if this becomes reality! Wish me luck!;)
