Anybody got any tips which one this would be? I got knives, sharp sticks, clubs and hammers:p...but not a decent saw. Recommendations? Thanks :D

hands down gerber

Gerber exchange a blade saw comes with bone and wood blades. the bone blade is great, the wood blade is unreal

For moose I use a Stanley Fat Max.

I've tried most bone saws and none work as good as a real saw.

I do like the idea of a cordless reciprocating saw though.:D

X2 on both the Wyoming and Gerber buck saw/meat saw packages. They are very handy and portable.

When, I'm not worried about weight, I pack this :D:

I've got the 444 and it splits a moose in about 20 seconds!

I have one of these.

It works awesome

I have one similar to this now. I had a gerber but it broke last fall trimming shooting lanes. The folding saws work very well for brisket & pelvis but haven't quartered anything with one.

I have a cordless reciprocating saw but don't take it hunting anymore. Not impressed with battery life in the cold. I prefer a hatchet & hammer in the field if the animal has to be broken down to transport.

Buy a small gas powdered chain saw. and only use cooking oil insted of chain oil in it. Does a moose in seconds.

I have a wyoming saw in my daypack that works well for deer sized critters. For longer trips, we use a swede style saw that has both wood and bone blades. It works well on larger animals. At home we use a corded Dewalt reciprocating saw with 12 inch blades. this gives a pretty clean cut. I have split several beef this way, but you must use a quality blade. I also replace the blade after splitting 2 or 3 beef.

thanks guys for the info. The cordless stuff is nice, but its to big for me to pack all over the place. I dont have an ATV so its all foot power...up the hill..down the hill ;)

If you're packing everything on your back you could go gutless. I've never done it but you could look into it as an option.
