From different web sites I get contradictions. What year and where is this thing from?

Info pays 1 beer if you are from ottawa.

I am not aware but I don't see a problem posting a serial online? Correct me please if it is not recommended. I'll take down the pics.

so? :)

Looks like a letter series Tula to me, '55-'56. That's as close as I can be. The factory didn't stamp the receiver covers on some '55 and '56 rifles. Cheers.

That looks like a whole bunch of different varitations of SkS's to make up that rifle.
I'll love to know what factory it came from.

There is also what looks like a capital R but backwards on one side if the stock. Beside on the opposite side of the bolt handle.

Yes it is, There is an ugly thing welded inside the mag that keeps the arm from going all the way down. cylinder shaped with a dome top. Welded in the bottom.

Ya, my '51 and '53 Russkies have the same blob in the mag also, it limits 'em to 5 rds. They're good shooters once you get used to 'em. Have you tried her out yet? If you just got her, make sure to clean all the crud off and take the bolt apart and clean the firing pin and the firing pin channel. The bolt should rattle when shaken, unless it got a spring.

I have not tried it yet. It's already very clean, oiled and ready to go. There is no spring in the firing pin, it rattles freely.

So it's pretty much narrowed to a 55-56 tula. Right on. Thanks!

Look like a Tula 1956, should have a star stamped on left side of receiver, the rear cover have the typical refurb mark. If no star is present, could be a earlier model with rear cover replaced during refurb. Its only a guess but with russian refurb, every combination is possible.

Yup, its a refurb by the square stamp and a line through it, corner to corner on the top of the receiver.

I like the long thread mount connecting the barrel to receiver, mine has a medium.... It tells me its older and not the pinned barrel.

You could look under the stickies in the red rifle section to learn more about youre rifle, as I've been doing for my new sks in the last week.

Some good reads in there.:)

Nice stock by the way!...

Here's pics of 1 of my russians sks,s. Beside trigger guard and receiver, totally mismatched rifle. Since he have the Tula star on left side and no date on cover, i always said that i have a 1956 but could it be a 1955? Thanks for input.

that last photo is interesting

That is a faint stamped Iraq proof and makes that sks a nice collectors piece. I have a couple with East German Proofs and have seen 1 other with Iraq proofs that is really nice!!!!
