Saskatchewan whitetail draw

In the Terms of Rif Raf ,The Alberta Premier Was talking about all the people moving to Alberta from Saskatchewan!

A little fact for you there are 3.1 million Canadians right now that were born in Saskatchewan and only just over the million mark in Sask. now. So if it were not for all the Saskies in Alberta your poor province would be really messed up. If it wasn't for all of us guys from Sask. out here running your oilpatch you wouldn't have one and Alberta would be another hippy comune like B.C.

You beat me to it. Gotta love reality :)

I feel obligated... GO RIDERS!!!

So according to you, hunters should all be out looking for trophy bucks only? I hunt mainly for the meat, antlers are basically just a bonus. Big or small, to me, they're all trophies. I also hunt whitetails in saskatchewan. Not because I feel to need to shoot a bigger deer, but because I like to hunt with my best friend, who happens to live in sask.

Who are you to say that my hunting is "wrong" just because its not the same as your hunting? I don't go around bagging on the trophy hunters because I'm a meat hunter.

Now i don't have any problem with saskatchewan having a draw for non-residents, as a matter of fact I think it's a great idea. I also like your idea of paying within one month of being drawn(if not paid, the oppurtunity should go to the next person on the list). I don't agree with the $500 fee idea. Keep the fee reasonable enough for normal human beings to afford. Not only that, I guarantee that more small deer would get shot with that fee. If I was to pay $500 for a tag I'd be making damn sure that I shot something by the last day.

If you hunt deer (big game) in Alberta and Saskatchewan for the meat then
shoot does only, and leave the bucks for the serious hunters who hunt hard for a trophy. I don't go to Saskatchewan to hold my friends hand to hunt or to drink and party. I have many friends in Saskatchewan, hell my wife is from there. I'm on a mission to hunt a big whitetail and my window for opportunity is small, only 6 days in the farm lands. Unlike yourself, most people go to Saskatchewan to hunt a big buck but it is unfortuate that many shoot a young buck just to fill their tag because they paid alot of money for their trip...............poor excuse to shoot a deer. Ive been hunting in Saskatchewan for 22 years and came home with only 6 deer..........do the math buddy, at least I hunt and don't go there to kill.

It's OUR Province
We will shoot what ever the hell we want

Agreed. But I would like to hunt with my children and then their children so we should probably be doing this responsibly.

I dont know how you figure that people who were born in saskatchewan are running the show in alberta, because they are not.To say that Alberta is poor, makes me laugh ha:because I've driven on saskatchewan Highways, They are a Joke!

If it was'nt For all us guys from Alberta Running our rifles in the last week of November every Fall and shooting alot of your Trophy deer like the one in my profile picture,we would'nt be having this discussion now would we.

I think alot of you guys from saskatchewan are just jelous that we can come and hunt Whitetail deer in saskatchewan with no guide but you cant do the same in alberta.

It's a slippery slope boys, first deer draws then it won't be long now till they start calling you banaskatchewan

No worries,Manitoba has Great whitetail hunting, and If I cant hunt anymore in saskatchewan i'll put my $1000.00 cash in 6 days into there economy.Even though the province of saskatchewan needs the money more, thats there lose if they want to tighten up the non resident hunting.

I believe that the discussion was directed towards the Cananadian-Residence, not the Saskatchewan residences. As far as I'm concerned there should be more restrictions on Canadian-residences and Americans and more liberties with the Saskatchewan residence.........which you already have of course. I fully support any new game laws in Saskatchewan that will reduce the amount of Canadian-Residence infractions. The Government is in a catch 22 with this baby by trying to please everyone without a knee-jerk conclusion. The government dosen't want to loose something which they love the most, "money". Canadian-residence bring in alot of money to Saskatchewan during that last week of November, and for the Saskatchewan Government to place a complete ban on Canadian-residence deer hunting would not sit well with their fiscal budget........a loss of millions to the government and business sector combined. I previously mentioned that the licenses should be posted at $500.00 and paid up-front. This was a deterant to keep people out of the province to reduce wildlife infractions and pressure towards younger male deer. (3 1/2 and younger) The government will reduce the amount of Canadian-resident deer hunters in 2012, but in the zones with the highest number of hunters that were applied for this year, 2011.

Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't realize that hunting for meat was "killing" not hunting, and that as a result i'm not a "serious" hunter. Let's see, I hunt from the beginning of september until the end of november every year, spend the off season planning and scouting, insane amount of money on guns/ammo, gear etc......Wow. I'd hate to think of the amount of time and energy I'd be expending if I was actually "serious" about it.

The whole point of my post(which, obviously, you missed) was that different people have different goals when hunting. Just because someone goals are not the same as yours doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to have them.

Hell, you could go so far as to say that your narrow view of hunting is a very "liberal" style view (e.g. "I don't like guns, therefore nobody else should be allowed to have them").

So, just because you are "on a mission to hunt a big whitetail", and feel that you should take either a big buck, or no buck, doesn't mean that other people shouldn't be allowed to hunt the way they like (so long as it is legal and ethical, I'm not about to condone shooting from the truck or any of that crap, get your ass out and walk). You can keep doing what you're doing, if that what floats your boat then good on ya. But everyone else, they can keep doing what they're doing too, just because you don't like it, doesn't make it illegal or unethical.

(PS, when I go out there there is no hand holding, partying or drinking. We just hunt, it's not abnormal for us to put 10+ miles on our boots in a day so if that's not "hunting hard" enough for you, I don't know what is)

Do whatever you want to do as long as you're out hunting and enjoying yourself while safe and law abiding!

With that point made if I was strictly hunting meat, I could fill all my tags before Sept 10th quite easily as long as I wasn't drawn for something like Moose in Zone 5....

First of all. Maybe you should look up some interprovincial migration numbers and see how many Sask people are moving to alberta to cash in on your oilpatch money. If it wasnt for migration, your province wouldnt be where it is today because the work wouldnt be getting done.

Secondly, When he said "poor province" in that context, he obviously wasnt refering to your province being poor as in no money. Have you never heard phrases like "poor baby" or "that poor b@stard". Make more sense to you now?

And last of all. Why would we want to go to your province to hunt whitetail? Why would we be jealous. Its obvious where the better hunting is.

I have nothing against out of province hunters coming to Sask to hunt when we have a surplus of deer but this upcoming year, I am not so sure about. These pictures are of rows of large round bales in a stack yard. The deer are standing on them. You can count about 300 in here at any one time. Each day there are 4 to 6 dead to take out. They were to far gone before they found the feed. By the way, there is no compensation for the damage to all this feed. This part of the province is having the bigest winter kill I have ever seen We are deep in snow and the cold does not want to let go.

No,no,no!!!! Almost no deer here and hardly bigger than jackrabbits. Basket bucks only. Non-resident licenses cost $1500!

(Oh yeah --- and we don't allow any inter-provincial bickering!);)

Wow.... $1000. Be sure to let me know if you choose to go to Manitoba, as I will gladly spend an extra G to have one less guy pushing bush around here. Maybe other CGN'ers from SK will volunteer to pick up the slack when you come back with the ever predictable "My 15 buddies that I push every little bluff and coulee with is 15G, you got that laying around?" Get off your AB high horse and hunt there.

That's right - no deer in Manitoba. And if you Sask or AB hunters come here, better watch out... our giant predator mosquitos will get you! They have block heaters and deicers for winter flight. ;)

Seriously, I thought about doing a hunting trip across the border as I've always liked going to Saskatchebush but was advised not to.

Your hunting regs sound f***ed up. :HR: Good luck sorting it thru.

when it says up to 4 people can apply on the same application, does that mean 4 people for 4 tags, or 4 people for 1 tag? i'm planning on hunting the family farm in the SE corner this year, always wanted to and but never could until it was opened last year, but if 3 guys are party hunting off one tag, i don't think it's worth the bother. that said, if it is 4 for 4, or 3 for 3, etc etc, i can live with not going ever year, and giving the population a chance to breathe.
