How many C-7 in service

Best way I'm aware of to get accurate information for the original contract is to put in a Access to Information request to DND. It's probably unclassified, just buried somewhere. $5 initial fee plus whatever additional costs may pop up, city level goes to around $30 or so. No idea about federal, but probably similar.

Worth it most of the time though, they search, photocopy and compile all the documents for you and mail it.

Just curious, i was just looking for a ball park figure. I didn't know if the CF really planned to actually have 1 rifle per member or if they calculated 1 rifle / 2 military personnel.

If they ordered 100 000 c-7 rifle on the initial contract, and, let's say 20 000 C-8. This means that there is actually more than enough firearms to issue one to every member of the CF, reserve and reg force and keep some as war reserve.

I am actually surprised, if we would do the same aquirement today, we would probably buy half what we needed and rotate...

I don't know if there is one for every reservist but I do know that there is one rifle for every reg army member. I have my own service rifle.

There should be two rifles or at least parts for every serving reg member. How do you go to war without a weapon and the ability to keep it fighting.

I doubt that there is a rifle for every Navy or Airforce member which would skew your numbers and theory just a little bit.

I'm with Petrock on this. It is likely that there is 2 rifles per service member. Although I am of the mind that this would also include everyone in the CF.

To give an idea, I am a Reserve (land) MP. I have my own C7A2 at my local platoon. When I went on tour I was issued another one. When I go on courses, there is another one for me for the duration of the course. When I taugh at NOTC Venture they had more than enough C7A1 for all staff and students, although I do beleive these were on loan from CFB Esquimalt.

Plus war stock.

So yeah, 140 000 C7's (plain jane, A1 and A2's) would be my guess, plus minus 20 000.

No idea about C8 of all kinds, short of not nearly enough.

Denmark & the Netherlands purchased quite a large number from Diemaco's for their armed forces as well but that doesn't count on this topic.

As well as a few for England, small units with big budgets :)
