Too much plastic in the UMP/USC and not in 9mm. I considered getting a USC last year but went with the B&T TP9 instead.

I think German made HK MP5s are banned from import here in some way(yet GSG clones and Turkish made versions are fine... )

I'm surprised they didn't go for a rifle-calibre short carbine. 9mm SMGs seem like an outdated concept these days, even with the capability to mag share with the pistols

The Mx4, with a scope, is pretty effective out to a hundred meters, and automatic fire is effective out to 200 meters.

They probably can pick up 5 of these for the cost of one MP5. Can't beat that kind of deal.

It has to do with the form they're imported in. I think the Turkish ones are imported in a sporterized form, and then all the naughty bits are added in state-side. (IIRC, the civilian SCARs follow the same way.) When Bush Sr. enacted that import ban in 1989, H&K just stopped making the HK94.

You can get a 9mm UMP in Canada - and not the one with the long barrel. I've seen them on the EE but they are not cheap. Not as much as a G36 but still expensive. You can also get the MP7 in Canada too. Also very expensive but it is out there.

MP5 has been around for a loooong time. Theirs are probably worn out and brand new ones are probably way more expensive than the beretta. I'm sure it's simply a cost/volume issue.

Sort of the argument many were making about certain Afghans/Iraqis preferring the spanking new rifles of the M-16 series over the now well-worn (out) AK-47's ?

It has to be a money thing.
The mp5 is the best sub gun to shoot handsdown. I would take it over anything else.
But I have only ever shot the mp5 uzi and ar15. In full auto
