hey guys, just wondering if anyone has had their barrels cut down on there norc m4's? any issues cycling? i assume you would have to notify the CFO but is there any other steps that need to be done?

canuksitk, I have a shortbarreled M305 and love it, no issues with cycling even light loaded stuff. Consult with M14doctor

how can you safely cut a chrome lined barrel on an m4? As far as I know you cannot.

The m14 with the new short non-chrome barrel looks good though!

:)

You can safely cut down a chrome lined barrel on an M4 just like you would any other barrel, you just can't do it legally.

please tell me how to cut the chrome without chipping? No gunsmith I have talked to will do this. They say due to hard and brittle nature, it will chip.

do tell... grinder? chop saw? torch?

because it is already over 18 and a half inches. you cannot chop a barrel that is under 18.5" (also cannot chop one to under 18.5") they m305 has a 24" bbl(i think or 20"), so you can cut 5.5" off of the barrel and still be legal.

since the m4's have a 16" bbl, you cannot legally cut them (no one can)

aye please do enlighten us. as it is illegal to shorten a Factory barrel to less than 18.5". you can Manufacture a barrel of less than 18.5" if you have a manufacturing license.

First off...we're talking about 2 different firearms here...the norc M4 and M14

Deleted all the other stuff as the NFA page says it better than I could...

go here http://www.nfa.ca/node/128 (I believe I can hotlink the NFA...if not mods please unlink).

Criminal Code (R.S., 1985, c. C-46)

PART III
FIREARMS AND OTHER WEAPONS
Interpretation

84. (1) In this Part,

"prohibited firearm” means

(a) a handgun that
(i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or

(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge,

but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,

(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

Opps! I'd better tell on myself......

You know what is even more messed up in Canadian firearms law then "notsorichguy" committing illegal acts, is the fact that everyone who reads his post and doesn't report him that actually believes he did what he posted is a criminal according to the firearms act too.

NOBODY IN THIS COUNTRY CAN CUT DOWN A FINISHED RIFLE/SHOTGUN BARREL UNDER 18 INCHES FOR A FIREARM THAT WILL BE OWNED BY A CIVILIAN LEGALLY.
