Should the "Hunting!" section be a Group Membership on CGN??

The amount of anti-hunting comments in this section is retarded!! It seems that every time someone takes an animal, there is some "holier than thou" elitist who wants to point out how unethical you are. I thought we were all hunters, aparently some people just don't get it.

I am in full support of adding the Hunting section to Group Memberships, I am just wondering what others think.
 
I agree. I have seen some questionable comments in a few threads. Before we look at membership, I'd like a mod to clarify if it is trolling and infractionable.

IMO you must have some ethics involved or you just add fuel to the anti-hunting groups argument. As hunters we have to show they we have respect for the animal , landowner, public, law enforcement ,etc..............When we start throwing the attitude around of I can do what I want when I hunt we make it very easy for anti-hunter groups as well as anti-firearm groups to make their own argument that we are just a bunch of backwoods rednecks that wanna shoot up the country side in the pursuit of game.

If we can demonstrate morality and ethics during our hobby we make it more difficult for others to enforce their view points against hunting.Also that through the management of game and wildlife we preserve the animals for future generations.

As for group memberships, it's the internet , you won't keep many out of any group, and I honestly don't think you want everybody out, that is the place where hunters can show their beliefs and integrity.Just like taking someone hunting or to the range, welcome them with open arms.

There will always be elitests in every aspect of anything we do. Fly fisherman hate bait plunkers. Longbow shooters hate crossbow shooters. Blackpowder shooters hate black rifle shooters, and so on and so on. In the end I'll just tell everybody to go piss up a rope.

I lol'd. I think that the hunter haters need to realize that huntng is probably one of the major reasons we still own guns. What is the point of target practice if you're never going to shoot anything?
 
There are ethic's then there are laws, just because something is legal doesn't mean its always ethical. But even with that said, this isn't the place to force your ethic's on someone else.

I doubt making it a members forum will solve the problem though, you would need more then one members groups to house the differences we all have, even at that someone will always have a problem with someone else.

Where did i say i hate killing? I didnt. I said not all of us are hunters. But since you are so nosy, i do not hunt, well the usual deer anyways. If i was to hunt it would have to be something i would actually eat. Moose, elk, halibut. :D

I dont just shoot stuff, and leave it for the wolves to eat like some people. I am more of a personal protection guy.

There is always some ignorant bed wetter that gets his panties in a bunch over something he doesn't understand. Making this forum a "group" forum won't change that.

No, they were invented to make projectiles go really, really fast. What someone does with it is a choice.

Saying that "guns kill" is the exact same argument that the antis use to try and take them away; that guns are inherently dangerous, violent instruments of death which will always be a danger to innocent people.

Firearms are tools. If someone chooses to harm another, then it is the person's doing, not the firearm's.

I have met a number of people from different places around the globe, many of them violent, war torn places. These people invariably have the attitude that guns are bad and people like you and I should not have them. When I ask them why, they say "gun's only purpose is to kill people!". I try to calmly explain that as much as that may be the general purpose of firearms in THEIR country and / or experience, but in THIS country, firearms are used to put little holes in sheets of paper, to remind us of our history, or to put food on our tables (and less so for protection).
 
I don't think a "group membership is going to get rid of the trolls. They will just ask for permission if they want access.

Of course it is a person's choice as to what one uses a firearm for, but you can't tell me that they were not originally designed for war! It was quickly realized that killing animals was another use for them. Acknowledging firearm's history isn't a bad thing. We just also have to acknowledge that they have evolved as tools! Now we often punch paper with them. Times change.

I think that the comment regarding elitists in every forum pretty much hits the nail on the head. No matter what, there will always be some knob-gobbler who wants to tell you that something you are doing is wrong, simply because he/she chooses not to do it. Making the hunting forum a group membership will not alleviate this problem.
 
I find the amount of anti hunting surprising as well. Not everyone likes hunting, I get it, but you would think the ones that hate it would not try and trample on the rights of those that do hunt.

This forum should be left open for all to see and comment on. Sometimes the responses to the trolls are enlightening and educational. It is good for those ill informed to learn a thing or 2. I am a hunter and I have learned much from some of the more controversial threads. Others are just funny in a sadly ignorant way.

BTW the "only kill something you plan to eat" type responses are, I find, anti hunting.

I see people getting accused of being a troll because they're new to the sport and asking questions that it's natural for a newbie to ask, or because they have a genuine opinion that is different from somebody else's far more than I see a post that is an obvious "trolling" attempt. I can't think off the top of my head of a thread here that was a clear troll strike in the months I've been reading the hunting forum. Am I just missing them?

The other day in one of the other sections (not hunting) somebody asked what equipment they should get to learn how to shoot starting at 80 yards and maybe eventually working out to 100... somebody new who needed some guidance. It was suggested that they were a troll :\ I'm glad in that case somebody else pointed out that some people don't have as much experience as others.
 
I'm not sure that making it a group membership will solve your problem and honestly, the 'anything goes' mentality in the hunting section bothers me as much as the 'trolling' mentality bothers you.
Maybe if everyone took an extra second before they pulled the trigger on their rifle and keyboard we would all be a little happier. :p
