I finished the latest build tonight. In this case I went with a lower from Dlask and Joe was nice enough to make it with 9mm markings. Some of the machining operations on this lower turned out nicer than my last Dlask lower, but there were two relatively minor issues with this one.

1) The hole for the selector detent pin was not large enough diameter and I had to drill it out another 7 thou before the pin would fit.
2) The mag well fit every mag I tried, but would not quite fit a Hahn Precision 9mm adaptor block. I had to machine 1/32" off the leading edge of the guide rib on the mag catch side of the adaptor block to make it fit the lower's mag well. Not a big deal as the adaptor will still fit any other AR and I never have any intention of parting this lower out.

In any event, it was worth doing to see where the Dlask QA/QC has gone recently and for the most part their lowers are nicer than they were when I last used one in 2006, but still not as nice as, say, a Stag. The ability to get your own calibre markings, serial number, etc. though will be nice for some people.

The upper is a Model One Sales 9mm upper. Bolt is RRA, as is the 9mm hammer. front BUIS is Armalite, rear is DPMS. Aimpoint is an M2 4MOA in an ADM high cantilever mount. most furniture is magpul MOE, milspec tube (High Standard) and the handguard is Colt Canada C8. The LPK is a fair mix. Trigger and sear are Armalite, hammer is RRA, ambi safety is DPMS, as are the springs and detent pins. Mags are all C-prod 10 rounders.

I think it turned out nice - rather pleased with it. I haven't been to the range with it yet, but it's feeding dummy rounds 100%. I think I need to get an ambi mag catch though as I'm a lefty.

Hey, that looks great. I'm sure it'll be a fun gun to shoot. I'm looking to build a 4" or so barreled 9mm next. I really like the 9mm AR platform. The shorter the better. Very fun to play with. Too bad about the limited rounds magazines though. Even 10 rounds. That's the biggest downer on a fun gun.

BTW, do you need any more of those subgun Magpulls? I have 4 for sale in the EE right now.

Let us know how that gun shoots when you get her out.

Nice build, and don't want to start a sh**storm, but if the beauty of the AR family is in it's ability to 'plug and play' with different bits, parts, uppers, lowers , sights, etc., it doesn't speak positively if you have to machine/modify the parts straight from the manufacturer.
I full support (both vocally, and with my $), local ( read Canadian) suppliers of parts, but they need to be of a decent quality....

I totally hear you. Dlask has their mag wells EDM cut, but they radius the channel along the inside of the mag well where the mag catch sits. This is not a problem for 5.56 magazines - they all fit just fine - but the Hahn insert assumes this channel is cut with square corners, or very near to it, which is probably true milspec. I have no idea if you would have the same issue with a Spikes or RRA insert, but the Hahn is a much nicer unit so I use those. On the plus side, the upper is a perfectly tight fit to the lower - not hard to take apart, but zero wiggle.

If I did not have access to a mill to skim the rib down on the Hahn insert by 1/32" I'd not have been able to use this lower for my 9mm project. As it stands though, this lower and insert are now mated perfectly and will function 100% - it's also a very tight fit which is really nice. The issue with the rib on the Hahn, for those who could encounter a simiar issue, is the width of the rib, not the depth - which is not a concern in this lower.

Ideally it would not have needed modification and if I ever build another, I'll get an Aero Precision lower for $100 less in cost and the "multi" calibre marking and presumably an in-spec mag well. The RRA 9mm lowers are just too much money - the markup at Questar for those is even higher than on most import AR parts.

I also just changed the photo to show a better magpul arrangement. If you trim them and install them rotated 90 degrees, the flanges on the mag baseplate will prevent them from slipping off, but they can be trimmed enough to fit the magazine and still go all the way into the magwell. Definitely a recommended addition as these stubby mags are a B!TCH to grasp during mag changes.

Now if only I had some 10/30 promag pistol mags...

Good luck finding them...

Nice build with the exception of that nasty rallied gas block....

I had a fixed front and troy rear on my 9mm - got tired of that look (and I never used irons) so I swapped the DD rail for Troy TRX...

I don't think anyone has spike's stuff in stock right now? I forgot to mention, I do have a Spike's buffer travel limiter in the buffer tube to prevent bolt over-travel.

Paulinski brother one good pic deserves another
X 2 on the 10/30's you would have better luck finding "hens teeth" LOL
