I couldn't decide if I wanted to build a 223 or 308 F/TR rifle so I did what any undecided person should do, I decided to get both. I built a Barnard 223/308 switch barrel rifle and it is finally complete.:D Unfortunately it will be a few weeks before I can try her out. I had lots of help along the way from Adams Lake Rifle Barrels "Ian", Roberston Composites "Paul" and Mick Mcphee. Their advice and answers to my questions were greatly appreciated.

My load development will help me decide if I will be shooting 223 or 308 this season. I am hoping I can get the 223 to work consistently with the Berger 90 Gr. VLD's at longer ranges. My current F Class rifle is 223 and I love shooting the 223 caliber. Specs for the rifle are bellow.

Very nice that was quick when I spoke to you a few weeks ago I didn't think you would get it so soon,I'm still waiting on a reamer and barrel.
Is that the new sightron?

Yes this is a new to me Sightron, I received it today. This is my second sightron SIII 8-32x56mm. I have SIII 8-32x56mm (Mildot) on my old F class rifle and I decied to try out the same scope with a fine cross hair this time around.

It's a shame Sightron doesn't offer the SIII 8-32x56mm fine cross hair reticle and 1/8 MOA adjustments. I would have prefered it to 1/4 MOA adjustments. I was happy to see that they broadened their reticle options in 2011 and are offering some models with 1/8 MOA adjustments. Hopefully they will continue expaning their product lines as time progresses to include a SIII 8-32x56mm FCH or preferably a fine duplex reticle with 1/8 MOA adjustments.

Thanks for the tip. I gave this one serious consideration but did not choose it as I did not want a dot in the center of the cross hair. The cross hairs on the linked model are 1/2 the thickness as the fine cross hair reticle. I was afraid that I may have a hard time seeing the finer reticle in heavy mirage.

In the end, I decided that the reticle was more imporant to me than the 1/8 MOA or 1/4 MOA adjustments. I guess it's a matter of preference as I am sure others would have done the opposite.

Cheers,

I spoke to Peter today and he told me the 1/8 moa click was supposed to be introduced this spring ,but with what happened in Japan it might slow tthings down a bit.

That is one smokin' hot looking rifle. Those Robertson stocks are a work of art. Please post some groups when you get it out to the range.

From start to finish, it took around 6 months. It probably could have been done faster but I gave myself a bit of time in case there were some unforseen delays. I began ordering parts mid September 2010. My goal when I started was to have the rifle ready by mid April 2011 at the latest.

It took a bit over 4 months to get all the parts. It could have been done faster if I had chosen barrels that were in stock. I chose otherwise but had given myself some time to do so. The Robertson H&H stock took around 6 weeks from start to finish. The actual build time from when I first sent all the items to Mick Mcphee to when I received everything is +/- 6 weeks. I was very pleased with his turn around time.

OP, how long did it take to get your rifle from beginning to end?

thanks

I was over at Mick's when the gun was being put together and I can tell you that is one sweet rig. It is such a pleasure to see particular attention paid to the the parts that really matter.

I wish you all the success with your fantastic rig! And Thank you for your patience!!

Ian

Looks just like a normal shouldered barrel, much better setup for a quick change, switch barrel rig. Just screw it on, make sure you have the right bolt in and go, no need to headspace it every time like the barrel nut's.
