Just wondering what you guys did to make the awful upper and lower handguards look respectable or just swap them out. Now that the ugly pistol grip is gone, looks like I'm going to swap out/paint them to match the Fab pistol grip. I'm not a fan of the cosmetics of the NEA pieces. Just wondering what you guys have done with it. Pics if possible.

Are there factory type handguards that are black?

Also the fiber optic sights would be nice.

Anyone love the awful factory furniture?

This is what I have so far, just the pistol grip swapped out.

i put on the factory black furniture from Wolverine supplies. I think it only cost me $25 for the upper and lower. Cheap solution and it looks great

Your sling is on backwards, and I also prefer the original bakelite.

How can you prefer that ugly bakelite! You can see the seams where the pieces were glued together, it's just awful. To each his own. I'm going to go for the factory black pieces from Wolverine and the fiber optic sights.

If there was an option for solid wood furniture I'd go for that, so black is my second choice. Maybe a black sling can be found as well.

Form follows function.
The bakelite is very strong, heat resistant. easy maintenance. Plastic will melt if it is not the correct polymer, and wood can split.
There was a good reason that they went with the current bakelite.
Then again, I like ComBloc guns the way they are so perhaps I am biased.

Nothing wrong with liking any gun the way it came from the factory.

Yup. If I wanted solid, reliable furniture when in the rain, snow, etc I'd want to keep the bakelite. It was made to last and it will.

However, I'm a fair weather shooter and not in a combat situation so the bakelite will go. :D

It's not even Bakelite improper. It's wood chips and glue, people, not plastic.

Bakelite (play /ˈbeɪkɪlaɪt/ US dict: bāk′(ə)līt), or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from an elimination reaction of phenol with formaldehyde, usually with a wood flour filler. It was developed in 1907–1909 by Belgian chemist Leo Baekeland.
