How strong are .410 shotguns?

Where do you get .410 slugs that are more than 100 grain. I would like to buy some. I have and use 3" winchester's that are labeled 1/5 ounce my calculations put them at 87.5 grains. At the speed they are going I think they are about equal to a .357 mag. good for small deer at close range.

most 3 inch slugs can be had at WSS or other similar stores. Cambodian Tire and Wally World sell them.

.410 Threads are Awesome, seems that the "little gun" is pretty well useless.:D

Maybe in your hands.:stirthepot2::D
I kind of like my little wingmasters. Sending one barrel away now to get sites on it however so I can use it this fall for moose.:onCrack:

I think the question was

"can you safely use a .45colt in a normal .410 chambered gun"????

I'm going to do some research on this because if I can use them in my M6 survival rifle (even loaded down) That would be the shiznet.

Don't know about the newer ones but my old wingmasters etc. NO NO NO. You may get away with it for a few rounds but they are not designed for the pressures you are talking.
All those nice little pumps were engineered around that 12000 psi figure max.
If you decide to do that, let me know, because I want to come and watch. Only I will be standing about 50 yards away and wearing a face mask and body armor.
Google your question and read some of the feedback it will scare the crap out of you.

I just did some reading and it seems that a .45colt is to big in diameter for a normally chambered .410. Pressures would be quite a bit higher if you jam the too big cartridge in.
The guns designed for both have a larger .45 cal chamber and barrel.

So there we go, definitely not in my M6 that's worth a fair chunk of change and let's face it is not built Ford tough, I mean it's made out of sheet steel.

Really good info, right there! Any links to the reading?

Thanks.

Send me one and I will give it a good workout, I am sort of half considering an 870 Express in .410 or a Mossberg 500E, it won't see 10k plus rounds a year so I think I can save a little by going cheaper.

I need to find someone loading the .410 in my area to load me up some goose loads:D

You didn't even know you could get a slug over 100 grains, and now you are recommending where to get them? Priceless! You go girl!!

No it isn't because I did not know about the 3 inch. it is because I assumed a panty waste like yourself would be only able to handle 2 1/2 inch. Isn't that right pussey. Now go F.O.

I had both at one time. Hated the mossberg. Did not fit well, and just felt terrible.
Express if you take it a part and give it a good polishing in the receiver etc will work just fine. I take a wingmaster apart and compare. It really helps smooth out the action.
I load a lot of 410 but I am setting up now for MOOSE loads not goose loads:D

I have a fondness for the .410, and have a mossberg, remington, cooey, and manu-arms, to list a few. I have neices and nephews that like to shoot and it's a good cailbre for them. As for shooting larger game, before you go on about your willingness to shooting deer etc. , you better have a good look in your local regs because it's certainly not legal here and if it's not legal where you are ... well you get the picture.

Oh, as far as well built, you could park a tank on the manu-arms O/U, it's built like a brick $%it house ! .. mind you .. looks like one too .. ugliest firearm I own.

The "Handloader" magazine two months back had a really good article on the .410 , lots of loading info and ideas.
