Here are three of my go to rifles.
the specs,

Apple jack stock, pillar bedded stevens 200 action, hi score ssa, SSS barrel nut and recoil lug, rifle basix trigger, shillen 17 twist 30BR Robinett cut and crowned at 24"

Hornet Stock, pillar bedded Stevens 200 action, hi score ssa, SSS barrel nut and recoil lug, rifle basix trigger, savage 12bvss 223 rem tak off barrel for now.

Pepper Laminate stock, action bedded Savage 110 which will shortly be wearing a model 12bvss 308 Win 26" stainless barrel, Canjar set trigger, SSS barrel nut and recoil lug and going into a Hornet Laminate benchrest stock as soon as I get it chucked in the duplicator and remove some of the material that is hiding the benchrest look.

This target was during new 30BR load developement with 125 grain bullets hand made for me, four shots into a .100 inch group and the last shot of the day dropped right out. I tried to deny all or most of this but to many people managed blackmail pictures of the target so I am posting it publicly so they have nothing on me :D

Second target is 10 shots for score on each bull at 100 yards using the old 115 grain load, one shot in the sighter and 10 in each bull for score, not bad for a 30 shot string, no group movement due to heat with that barrel.

The Apple Jack has my vote - like how the black action flows into the black bases / mounts / scope, how the stainless bolt / bolt handle / barrel work together, and the overall proportions with the 24" tube.

Nonetheless, find these threads trouble some... like to see what is in them but then and up trying something similar... i.e. last time I opened one of these threads ended up trying to finish a stock and building this...

Now this thread and am thinking about swapping barrels...

I bought the apple jack stock from Sharp Shooters, when they stopped shipping to Canada I just set it up in the duplicator and copied it.

Lineofsite as per your email, the round bar with the flat ends in the foreground is a action wrench, both rifles have leupold PRW bases and Qrw rings with the exception of the savage, its wearing weaver rings and bases but those will change as it progresses into a bench build. The two metal pieces on the roughed out stock are infact a Hi score single shot follower and a SSS recoil lug, the SSS recoil lug is way beefier then the stock lug, as for a difference I can't say as I never tried the stock lug. The SSS stainless barrel nuts are very close to the stock ones and again no big difference, they might just sell them to replace the blued ones to keep the look of the barrel. And lastly those are both tactical bolt knobs, I should have some new protype lift assists to try out this week.

Those stevens are great guns. I love mine, haven't done anything fancy to it but I would like to soon. It shot great out of the box so its my coyote gun but damn yours shoot fantastically.

Can you say Feng Shui :D

Recognized the QRWs & PRWs (use them as well, like the >180 degree top cap, square recoil bar and 4x torxs) but was curious what you did for elevation reaching out to 600 hence the question whether you were getting some elevation out of the bases or if all internal to the scope (cannot do it with my scopes unless use Burris inserts or 20 moa rail).

Not sure if I like one piece rails - strengthen or distort action? - do make feeding a little more difficult. So if you found something that works with two piece bases may try that route too. For the one that these threads motivated likely going with tried & true QRWs as it already came with a 20 MOA rail (hopefully windage good).

Guess the wrench slides inside the action then end placed in vice/wrench? Used to them wrapping / clamping around the outside of action.

Looks like you have the harmony between rifle and target figured out. I only get groups of 5 like that when I shoot 20 and cover 15 with tape, must build prettier rifle :)

:)

Yes, the wrench slides inside the action, then you slide 7/8" HD socket over it and with the barrel in the vice (un) tightening it is quite easy. Outside action wrench must be specific to said action so the expense to have a half of dozen of them would be enormous. This one will fit most of the two lug system bolt actions and wil not marr the receivers on the outside either.

So the hornet is a duplicate stock you made yourself?

correct, the hornet blank in the last picture with the savage 110 just needs to have the outside removed to expose the real stock hiding within :D

lineofsight, I reach 600 with no moa built into the bases or rings, weaver T36 scopes on both stevens actions, more then likely going to put one on the 110 as well.

Gunrunner8, recognize that action wrench??? tis a beauty

Very nice. I look forward to your info to put on my website.

Enjoy...

Jerry

If you can copy and paste it Jerry go for it :D

grass seed is going down tomorrow so we should see sawdust flying by the weekend, might change my mind on the Savage, seams I found a slab of pepper laminate in a weird place but I don't think I will miss the end table my morning coffee sits on :D

Its amazing what you can smuggle in if you know how to camoflouge it

Action wrench

unrunner8, recognize that action wrench??? tis a beauty

Yes yodave I do recognize that one and aldough that high carbon SS shaft is very, very strong the 4340HT steel is stronger. One of CGNer and his friend both were having the problem with unscrewing rusted Swedish Mauser with 4' long extentions so the aprox torque was in 400 ft/lb + teritory and noticed some flexing of the wrench so I am considering changing the steel for the stronger one. I am looking around to purchase some for reasonable price. Please keep me posted about the performance of yours and every sugestion to improove the wrench is very appreciated. GR8.

I don't believe the OP. We all know that such shooting is impossible without the rifle being built on a Remington 700 action, trued and blueprinted and sporting a 30" Krieger barrel :D

Seriously, great rifles and great shooting.

His story is starting to get pretty old already. I think he's scared of losing business if everyone started to shoot a Savage and nobody sent him that other brand to work on.
