Hey all, was out ringin a few gongs with a buddy the other day at the 500yd range (our longest range on site) with a savage 300win mag when we decided to have a bit of fun with my 858. The sights are "marked" for it, so we decided to try out the validity of these marks and take her to 500 just for kicks. Well it turned out awesome to say the least, who woulda thought it would be so accurate at range with surplus corrosive ammo! It is no tack driver by any means but to hit a 1ft by 1ft piece of steel on a backstop repeatedly un supported and standing was just a blast! Not too shabby for a $700 rifle.

Good going. We usually have at least one at our service rifle matches. 100-500m. A little easier to track the shots though because anything on a 4ftx4ft screen is scored. The target is about 381mm though.

I've shot steel out to 500yds with the SKS and CZ. They were large gongs though, very cool anyway. It's not like you're trying to shoot a group or anything, just hit the thing.

Hey guys I am not by any means saying we were hitting the gong repeatedly every time, I was just implying that it was very doable, and possible more than a few times. Honest figures are 12-15% hit frequency and for me that's still pretty impressive. No tack driver by any means as prior stated but with a spotting scope to correct aim it was a blast. In all fairness the rifle does have a foregrip installed, but that is like saying a car with a gawdy carbon fibre hood is exceptionally faster than its stock counterpart.it was just a "let's try it!" Scenario. Nothing more.

I can't even see 1'x1' @ 200yrds and iron sights....target disapears behind front post! As a matter of fact corner bulls @ 100yrds do the same, I have to shoot center target just so i can get a sight picture! but that's just me, great shooting.......Tex
I dont get all the Non-Believers...It's not like it is not possible at all...you guys need to get out a little more instead of just killing zombies in the mirror. I can vouch for Kyle, he shoots alot guys...sorry for using your name dude but the truth be told!

Sorry if I was misleading, but this is a forum for shooting enthusiasts. In no way is it a graded piece of post secondary educational literature and I can admit I was excited to get the post up so proofreading wasn't exactly my first focus. I'm not saying I'm an exception to any rules, or anything else but unless you have legitimately tried to do this then the words you are typing aren't worth the "key strokes" made in ones basement.
