So my scope mount hasnt shown up for my .270 and I am out of 6mm and anything else other than shotgun is to big a caliber for the area Im going out to.

Any thoughts on using a .22LR for Coyote? Its CCI stingers. Is there a max distance I should shoot at here? Its either that or I miss the hunt this time, which I dont want to do.

I would say you are ok with .22lr out to 60-70m. Not the ideal round for coyotes but should work ok as long as you place the shot well.
I'm sure others have more experience with this and can add some more info.

I wouldn't use it, but I did read here last week of a guy who killed a moose with 7 shots from a 22 mag at nearly 1000yards. of course he had a great group, I think it was 7 in an 8 inch circle. YMMV.:)

I found a fellow's site on predator hunting where he used to hunt with a .22 lr with stingers. He eventually changed over to a centerfire, but did not do too bad with the stingers, if I recall. Personally, if it's legal in your area, I'd go for it and keep my shots to around 50 yards, and only take good shot presentations.

Many moons ago I shot my first coyote with my Browning T-Bolt. Stopped his trot towards me with a rabbit in distress call and put one right in his chest. That being a HV long rifle. Dropped right there but when he saw me get up he wheeled and ran. Spined him on the second shot and down he went again this time to stay.

Ran the 60 or 70 yards to him to finish the job. I was quite impressed with that little rifle.

If it's all you've got and the set up and shot are good no problem. How hard can it be to get more 6mm ammo tho?

I have alot of other rifles, some are to big of a caliber for Southern Ontario, some are missing parts, some I cant get ammo in time.

So its the 22LR, otherwise I would use something else. Its not likely that I will take a shot anyways as its a new area and we are just going out for a look.

Ill keep it within 50 meters based on what I read above. Thanks

Near Hamilton. Thanks for the offer, but I havent taken this 22 out hunting before so its way past its due.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out- let us know. :D I used to shoot beaver on my trapline with a .22mag and at 50yds it did some serious damage, but there is quite a difference between those two shells.

I've shot a half dozen with a 22 and they were all dead very quickly. Limit your range to what you can shoot very accurately and what your optics support (70 yards probably would be my limit). I have had to add a second round to two of them but again not a major concern on my end.

I used stingers once for shooting a couple of coyote sized dogs that were killing our turkeys. It was a very messy job, not quick and painless at all. I was close, 20yds. I shot for the chest, bullets did not penetrate adequately. They both died after 4-5 shots each, but I was not happy. I wouldn't do that again, even to a coyote.
If you must use a .22, a .22LR high speed hollow point of 40 grains would be a much better choice than the stingers. Stingers are great gopher bullets but too fragile for bigger stuff like coyotes in my opinion.

I shot tons of coyote's at the farm with a .22 never had a problem I kept the shots under 50 yds and i usually put two or three rounds into them with my 10/22 and they dropped in their tracks.

Ummmm, I think if you look the .270 limit is only during deer season.

I've been wrong before though.
