We were out opening day, no gobbling, no tom's spotted... Just the one hen spotted across the field... No shots heard...

Not sure what was up, but we will be back out on Saturday...

Cheers

Hey Jay, if you and Fran want to check out the action around Camp Swampy please feel free.

Was out opening day, heard lots of gobbling, yelping and cutting. I wasn't set up in the best spot and couldn't call them in before the land owner started up the tractor. Spotted a tom and a couple hens but they saw me first. Heading back out sat, have a better spot picked out and did some more scouting.

2 toms taken in belle river outside windsor over weekend. They saw 12 though out of range and too close to the hens to take the shot. The neighbour down the road was chasing them off her back porch this past weekend. They are everywhere around here.

opening day saw about 5 birds in our field... at least 2 toms. nothin close enough to shoot. way less action than last year. lots of tracks in the sand though.. tons.

try again saturday.

I did hear about 10 shots around us though... and our buddies in the next field got one big tom around lunch time.

It is in the Sutton area (york-simcoe riding :)

Thanks folks.

A buddy of mine was out opening morning on one of the properties we have permission to hunt, and he MISSED a nice tom.............:( And another buddy on the same property saw a good sized tom but it never got closer than a hundred plus yards to him - a bit too far for a scattergun...........

Weather forecast is for pretty damp weather here tomorrow, I might have to wait a bit.

I was out Monday morning & had a tom with 2 hens in the field in front of me. Try as I might, I couldn't get him to leave the hens. He was always around 60 yards out. Every time I would call he would puff up & strut. Finally gave up & went home. Probably shouldn't have shot him anyway as he was the only bird I heard gobbling in the whole area! I'll give him a chance to breed his hens then I have another go at him. No gunshots heard, but I left around 9:30. Good luck to everyone!

Went out opening day and had a tom coming. Somebody had permission on the property next door and shot the tom about 100 yards away from us. Didn't know they were there.
Changed locations & had some toms gobbling but they wouldn't show themselves.Hope to get out tomorrow if it's not pouring.Heard your buddy Winston got a tom on Monday afternoon. Cheers Bac4

Belle River? must be on the south side of the 401 I have not seen any birds north of 401.

anyways got a jake this morning landed right into my decoys out of the roost scared the be-jesus out of me had to wait until it turned around and got behind a tree before I could get my gun up then boom puddled it not even a flinch of a death dance.
but as said before the birds are very quiet this season did not hear one gobble this morning although I was out of the bush by 7 lol

I'm north of the 401 and there's 3 toms in my field. They're huddled up by a thicket 625yards back in the field. I'm such an avid turkey hunter you'd think I'd run out there and fill a tag but it raining and windy out so they will live. The birds are out there you just havta look for them

Yeah I've got a couple of spots in the Belle River area that I've secured permission to hunt but they are all south of 401... I mostly hunt out by heritage village way though

Well the wind is blowing so hard here today that a fellow would need to worry about the shot blowing back at him!!!!

No sense even going out, you could not call over a shrieking 100 kph wind, and your dekes might get right airborne...........:p

Maybe tomorrow..........

Yeah... I thought the same thing... i could imagine a 20lb turkey walk in and puff up to strut and start rolling away down the field.
