Bear Defense 6 inch 870 build...need accessories

I've had a 6.5" for around a year now, WEAR EAR PLUGS...:runaway: Other than that I like the short barrel. It packs well and if you want a pistol grip there are a few options out there that will work. If you want an AR style grip stock application just make sure it's mechanically fixed and of course You're over the magic length. I've had longer Shotguns in the past and although you don't have the "Luxury" of 6-8 shots, so what You're defensive shooting anyway. Practice your tactical reloads, I'm using this thing for 3-gun this year, we'll see how bad I suck. In short, take it out and try it don't let other people tell you it sucks etc. Make your own mind up. Ohhh and make sure you hang on with 3" loads:eek::eek::eek::eek::D

And on the sling, if you're packing don't sling, if you're carrying, use a two point and watch Ayerbacks(Spelling?) videos.

Please explain....

6" is useless for bear defense

I'd say 90% of the time your going to get into one of two situations.

Your going to see him coming, be able to back out of the area, or if not, send off a warning shot and that should scare him away. If that doesnt work, reload and get ready...

Or your not going to see him until he's right beside you or charging... either way, your not going to have time to get off more than three rounds before he's on you.

In either situation, the extra blast from a 6" or 8.5" barrel is going to be more handy than a few extra rounds. Add a break on there and you have a real blast..... I'd take a small agile unit with the extra control of a full stock over a cumbersome pistol gripped stock with a few extra rounds that I dont need or wont get to use..... also, my break is serrated, I'll get to take a peice out of him before he gets to take one out of me...... thats my opinion anyway.

hears one i built o na 8.5 inch had to pin the stock at the #4 position to make sure it could not go below 26 inch.

Well its true that most people will never have to shoot a bear, but if a noise maker is the reason your packing a gun, then a $25 bear banger may serve you better than an expensive shotgun. My problem with tiny little shotgun barrels is velocity loss and huge muzzle blast. I already have damaged hearing, and being deaf for a few minutes after firing a shot is just not appealing. The blast from damn near any center fire will scare the s**t out of most animals so I'll take full velocity and 7 rounds over something with 3 overly loud and less effective shots. You can say all you want about how much time you have but each situation is unique and you could very well end up needing more than a couple shots. When its go time its go time, no f**kin around for me. Just my 2 cents

Doesn't matter how you phrase or word it.
It HAS to be 26 1/2 inch's long to be non restrected.

It DOES matter how you phrase it or word it. Try using fact instead of BS.

HAS to be greater than about 26 inches OAL (well, greater than 660mm specifically, or exactly 25.9843")....

Where you pulling the extra half inch from?

People want SUPER compact for bear defence...but a short barrel with a cylinder bore isn't gonna be super accurate at range...also with a tiny barrel its gonna recoil like a #####!!!

The BL 6 has a modified choke the last time I looked at one.. I wanted one for a while everytime I looked at them they basicly sold out before I could blink im getting one right away because they are lots of fun and Ive seen a few people shoot them they are really fun. For Bear nothing is 100 percent you could miss but for something that is small and easy to carry Id pick it over a full size shotgun anyday.. even the ksg that thing looks heavy I rather have something light weight..

Do you think that the reduced velocity from such a short barrel won't have an impact on how effective your "bear defense rounds" are??

Just asking, I mean it really isn't going to have the same impact as a longer barreled shotgun on such a hard target, no?

Also, out of curiosity, do you like live with bears, or are surrounded by them maybe? Seems like a lot of money to put into a shotgun for "bears" when it's pretty much useless for anything else??

Now, don't get me wrong, they look sweet, and probably are a lot of fun, just wondering as to their usefulness for anything outside of shooting beer cans.

Please feel free to school me. :)

I have yet to see anyone use a 25-30 inch mic to measure the oal of anything.
I personally have no problem carrying a shotgun that's 26 1/2 inch long, and with a measuring tape it's really easy to see the difference.

Really? My Wife is a Saint... lol.
You just make sure you get to bed early. You sound like you're getting cranky, and tonight is a school night.

If you have no problem with 26 1/2" , fill your boots. Just dont go around professing an imaginary mandatory minimum OAL of 26 1/2 inches. Especially in a thread about shorties!

Shorties huh.....
And your a professional with all legal criteria dealing with these?
This is a forum, and you did make the first comment, thought I'd give it back to you.
Carry on now little one.......
