Hate to say this, but in Simcoe County If you can find a turkey to shoot with a bow of any kind in the second week your doing great !

Good Luck !

I hunt simcoe county forests, but like the previous poster mentioned, good luck getting one with a bow. The turkeys after opening day are scared of everything..

any of the forests hold birds though.. but for archery, I would pick the biggest tract you are willing to drive to, and go as far away from the road accesses... Most county forest hunters dont seem to like to walk very far.

Whats your local tract? for your first bird, its probably going to take time, so put in the hours... dont overcall, and make sure you sit with lots of trees around you to hide pulling up your bow.... or use a pop up blind

took me 2 years to get my first bird, and still waiting on my second,

Just got your licence and want to take your first turkey with a bow ?????? Nothing like jumping in with both feet !!!

Don't get me wrong, I give you credit for wanting too, but you might change your mind by the 2015 season!!!:D

If you can get it done, I take my hat off to you..... Actually, if you get it done PM me your address and I'll mail you my hat !!!!

There are birds in S County forests but another place to target would be Duffern County forest. You need to get a permit to hunt them but they have birds. Please respect Private Property around the county forest , because this year is the worst I've seen for Trespassing and now stealing of property of other hunters and landowners...

thanks for the replies. it nice to see there are still some people who will offer there help to a stranger. i am located in Richmond Hill so i would like to hunt the 4 tracts that are located just off the 400 and side road 5. the reason i prefer to use a bow is because i am still waiting for my PAL in the mail. i went out and bought a bow. i will be heading out at 3:30 Am tomorrow and see if i can fill my tag. all the best.

If your going to hunt the tracts in simcoe. I would try some of the tracts around Borden/Angus area. I got a bird there last week. Be mindful of other hunters in the forest this time of year. The tracts in Bradford area are not that great for hunting a whole lot. These tracts are small and tend to have quite a bit of traffic in them. I would like to point out that simcoe forests want you to have a OFAH membership to hunt in them.
Either way good luck on the hunt and remember that birds still are out in the rain. Better to go out and sit in the truck, then to not go at all.

I once spoke with someone with Grand River Conservation Authority, who manage tracts (very expensively!!) around Guelph, about the OFAH membership "rule".

He said it was just for liability insurance, and when I explained that my CSSA membership had the same thing, that was no problem.

Sorry but also shoot restricted, so the OFAH doesn't get a thin dime from me. No offense.

Thanks guys for talking about these tracts. I am also new to the area and haven't made any inroads with private land owners.

We hunted up the end of Anne Street in Barrie last spring, saw all kinds of hens but nothing else....so much for "...where cats go dogs will surely follow"

I just got my licence and tag, Gona try with a bow. No I can't do anything easy.

There are 4 County Forests that you can't hunt in. 2 in the Southwest of barrie, one in Midhurst East of anne st, one in Angus

Hey guys
i am new to hunting,
i want my first bird to be taken with my compound bow.

My brother said the same thing 10 years ago, and still no bird. A bit of a loopy idea but I understand you want to go hunting.

Maybe try groundhogs or something with the bow, as I did when I got into the game of hunting.... just a thought.;)

how do you post pictures.
zero to hero in 30 seconds is right.
actualy took 4 hours.
going out again in the morning hope to fill the other tag.
can someone please guide me to the sticky to post pictures.
what people dont know is that i am an avid woodsman, also if you watch an hour everynight of youtube videos on turkey hunting you can really learn alot.
good luck guys.

I was out 3 times this weeek I have yet to see or hear a turkey in any of those damn woods. Private property is still way more productive to me (which is where I'll be tomorrow morning).
