Well I would like to hear owners impressions of their purchase. I am sitting on
the fence worried about accuracy issues, has anyone heard the bore gauges
.312 not .311. Would you do your purchase over again? Sorry if some of these issues have been previously covered.

Mine is an excellent shooter from out of the box and is a really nice rifle to carry.
I would buy it again in a heartbeat, hopefully will afford another in the future.

Mine was "okay" accuracy out of the box, shooting about 1.5-2" groups. I bedded the forend and it now does 1" groups. Good enough for me for this rifle. I can hit a 8" diameter gong at 335 yards every time, so I think I can kill a deer with the rifle.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

I have, many times.

As a 'suggestion', you may want to try it, once more. I just plucked one of mine, and measuring with a vernier micrometer, 0.0017". Nowhere near "16 thou", 0.016". Roughly, 0.016", your 16 thou is the thickness of about five pages of newspaper used to publish this years hunting reg's. I can only assume, you have VERY thick hair.

Here, I copied this from the intraweb so those who really gives a schit about the size of human hair can see.

"Flaxen hair is the finest, from 1/1500 to 1/500 of an inch in diameter … and black hair is the coarsest, from 1/450 to 1/140 of an inch."

Or we could talk guns and bullets.....

Flaxen? Is that what they call it after a romp in the hayloft? :D

If you don't like it, don't look :rolleyes:

I really like mine, shoots adequate for hunting inside 300-400 yards (groups run 1.5-2") but I haven't tweaked anything on the rifle yet or played extensively with ammunition

this thread needs some pics, try and spot the moose head medallion

I don't have a No. 1 in 303 Br but I do have a Jungle Carbine. Primarily, wanting a JC just for a bit of off hand practice, and, just for the hell of it but I don't really plan to hunt with it. Some of my best results have been using bullets 0.312" in diameter, like the Hornady 174gr and the Woodleigh 215gr but here's a quick target, shot with reloads using some 174gr FMJ bullets pulled from military ammo.

todbartell, those must be the Ruger rings? Damn they seem awfully high! Are they the rings that came with the rifle?

I've got a Var-X III 1.75-6X sitting on my Lott that I think I'm gonna swap over to the .303.

Demonical-

The RUger rings do seem high, but if they were much lower, they might interfere with loading/unloading under the scope. Although higher than I would prefer, they seem to work fairly well on the #1.

The other thing about this rifle is that it is a dream to pack when scopeless. Last fall I was hunting blacktail deer in thick timber on a snowy day and I hadn't got caps for the scope yet, so it kept filling up with snow. I took the scope off with a twoonie and popped it in my pack and real;y enjoyed hunting the thick timber that way.:)

I guess you already know this, as you mention you have a .303 :)

Nice pics of the thread topic Mr Bartell. Much better addition to this thread than discussion of hair size and irrelevant milsurp pics.:p:p

You're right, they are nice pictures but let me say it slower so perhaps you can pick it up this time around. If you don't like the additional dialogue and related info on the topic at hand, "if you don't like it don't look".:dancingbanana::rolleyes:
