Shorty black rifles

First... damn you all. I joined the forum last year looking for advice on one shotgun, and now I'm up to 5 black rifles and tac shotties... and looking for one more. And I haven't even gotten into pistols yet! :)

For now, I think I'm hooked on getting a short black rifle. Something compact and light. I'd like some advice as to if there is anything in my budget.

Here's my thoughts so far:
-I love the USP and Kriss Super V, but at $2500ish, it's more than I can justify spending on a single gun for now.
-I like the BRS-99 but don't love the small caliber without the convenience of pistol mags.
-The 11" VZ58 is cool with a folding stock, but I own 2 full size ones already.

Is there anything else in this range that you guys could suggest I look at? I think the most I could budget would be $2000 for a used model (I'm patient though)

All advice is appreciated!
 
NEA is coming out with their Canadian-made AR this summer, including short barrel version (10.5 and 12.5 to start, I think).. the price will be well below the $2000 limit.

If you're in a hurry and want an AR, then contact Armseast or Questar.

I considered a shorty AR, but I've never handled anything less than a 16" AR. I *DO* want a full size AR in the future, so maybe that's one of the reasons I'm less interested in a shorty. I'll ask if I can handle one next time I'm in a shop. Definitely fits the budget, though I'd still like a cheaper caliber to shoot as it'll be a plinker.

Edit: considered the Kel Tec Sub 2k, but hate to say it does very little for me.

Get the shorty AR ,get a .22 sub cal kit , orr parts for a 9mm,then get a different longer barreled upper later, that's the beauty of the AR platforum.
 
That is very true since i join in January i bought 7 rifles and 5 scopes this site is going thru my wallet like a drill, lucky for me they dont have everything they show, it could be worse on the expenses departement... JP.

I am guessing you mean the USC? If you mean UMP its gonna be a lot more.


What about a B&T TP9?

I know you said you don't love a "rifle" in a pistol caliber but keep in mind how much cheaper it will be to feed and when you get into pistols you could share one caliber between the two to further save on ammo through bulk purchases.

Get a shorty 10.5" and then get an upper in whatever longer length you want and swap them depending on what you are doing.

Ammo cost is not much, if any, cheaper in a pistol caliber at retail 1000 rounds of .223 is around $400, .45acp is around $500 for 1000, 9mm is still about $325 for 1000 . Deals can be found off of these prices but its not a huge difference and if you get into reloading, which you need to do, the difference is negligible from one to the other. IMHO:D
 
Sub $2000, cheap ammo and don't want an AR or a CZ?

your answer is a XCR pistol in 7.62x39, the ammo is cheap until the surplus stock is dry up, considering that they have made 47 million AK's they will always be some country rotating out their ammo.

I have seen a couple threads about this pending NEA AR becoming available in Canada. Who will be selling these and when are they slated to hit our borders?

So who is going to be selling these? I checked out the website and it had links to parts but not complete guns.

Don't want to build my first one. I'm not sure I want a short barrel either. I would like to be able to reach out to 200 yards at 3 gun events.

I am doing research to try and buy one that isn't going to break the bank. I do like to support Canadian companies as well.
