I was just wondering if the idea was ever considered to have a data base where members could post loads categorized by chambering and giving data as per the load, rifle and results.

I know there are many sites that some members here frequent for comparing data, why not have our own resource??

Just think it would be a nice touch.

I was thinking about this just the other day. In the Reloading section, why couldn't we have a layout, with the different calibers, as sub-forums. (I know there's lot of them) for example. .222, .223, etc. then in each have members list their loads. With a broad form disclaimer for the whole thing. Maybe, something like the EE where you have to get permission and agree to the disclaimer before being allowed to read and post.

It just makes a lot of sense to me, slightly easier than members asking for pet loads and going through text filled threads. This give the user the ability to compare things much easier.Even have printable tables.

Why not start the best load data base out there, get a nice layout , easy to read, easy to navigate.

Nothing personal but I wouldn't use anyone's pet loads on this site without first comparing it to the data from the reloading companies. IMO, there's too great a risk of someone posting a load that is unsafe either deliberately or by accident. Not that I don't trust each and every single one of you but I'd like independent confirmation from a reliable source before trying anyone's loads here.

Is Lee, Lyman, Hornady etc, liable when someone reads their manuals and blows themselves up???

Disclaimers mean anything? It's like going to the race track, who you gonna sue if a tire flies into your lap???

Why does it work on other sites? No faith in other members??

And nobody would be forcing you to use the information as gospel, just information, we already do it here, just a way to make it easier, that is all.

One other forum I frequent has a sticky like this but if you don't post the source ie Lee, Lyman or some reliable source, it was deleted.
Who's liable if it blows up a gun or kills someone.

I'm all for it. Pet loads do not preclude the user's responsibility to act with due diligence and use proper reloading practices. He/she should still cross check that it is within the ranges of published data. It simply gives the user the ability to see results of other peoples trials, and may steer one to try different powders, etc based on positive first hand experiences that loading manuals don't give (Lyman won't say that you may get better groups with Varget than with Benchmark). On a personal note, I like seeing other pet loads for ideas, as I lost all my personal records in a flood last year. Manuals are replaceable, but worked-up load data is not.

Do you do anything but complain and s**t on other people's ideas? What happened to personal responsibility in this world? Have a disclaimer that states buyer beware/make sure you confirm this is safe in your rifle/etc. and have at it.

OP, I like the idea and I don't think we need a Safety Sally wringing hands and worrying about everyone else in this world.

how do you verify if a loading is correct for some oddball round that no manual has published data for in at least 80 years ?

common sense needs to prevail that goes with sharing of this kind of information .

i can see a data base of personal load information here to be very valuable ..... the more detailed the information the better .

to gain entry to the database section , a person should have to acknowledge that if they hurt themselves and others and create property damage , they are at fault , no one else .

If you ask me that is a huge positive for a pet load section. You can still take a pet load and back off 10% and work up, or even better if it is truly an oddball round you have just found a kindred spirit. Send a PM and actively discuss it with him, I would suspect anyone reloading for some weird cartridge who would take the time to post on it would eagerly welcome discussion on the topic with a like minded individual.

exactly !!! :) and hopefully not too many private conversations happen , but instead they talk in a open forum about their findings .

If you want to trust your eyes, face and fingers to whatever is posted on this site be my guest. I didn't say it was a bad idea just that I wouldn't trust load data from anyone without checking against authorities more reliable than most people here.

And yeah, I actually do care about reloading and gun safety, promote it with vigour and will not apologize for it. Don't expect that to change.

If you don't want to use the resource, simply don't.Read your books, stick with them.

The loading manuals don't show results of say a 28" 1 in 7" twist Krieger .223 barrel, during Mid summer +30 temperatures. It doesn't show what BULLET guys are mostly using on F Class competitions and having the best results with, get my meaning here?

For the folks that like the idea, how would one go about getting the ball rolling on such an addition?

I do frequent another site for just such reason, you can go look by powder, bullet weight, bullet make, they even have graphs comparing loads!!

Since we are supposed to be "the" gun forum, let's try make it that way.

A good idea that I would contribute to and use. We'd have to decide its niche, as there are many other on-line sources, so this would be somewhat redundant, but still useful. "Steve" from "Steve's Reloading Boards" fancies his site as the A-Z and it's quite good, but it's just (and nothing less than) a compendium of published loads. Others have users submit loads (e.g. the "Reloaders Nest"), so again, it would require a niche and not duplicate or link to other boards. I would suggest a list of load info, both on-line and book-based as the first sticky.

There would have to be the standard disclaimers and Moderator(s) to keep it sane. Unlike other forums, I think it would have to be a series of stickies that are populated as loads are submitted. Otherwise it would be very difficult to find anything, and the disagreements, warnings and other "helpful" posts would become very irritating. The "Chicken Little's" would be insufferable if not contained, but some degree of sanity (understanding that users accept the risk) needs to be maintained.

Here we go again. Trying to hold someone else responsible for our retardedness. Check it out with a manual. If it's out of wack, don't use it. DUH! Some people really do need a Liberal Gov't to look after, and think for them. Who's liable...YOU ARE!!!

Great idea. My "go-to" loads:

.223 - 24 gr Varget, 77 SMK, Remington 7 1/2 primers. Make sure you have a 1/8" twist barrel.

.223 - 26.5 gr H335, 52 SMK, Remington 7 1/2 primers.

.308 - 46 gr Varget, 155 Sierra MK Palma, no real preference for primers.
