Folks,

We had our first rifle outing to Cambrai last weekend. We abandoned Saturday to awful weather but refused to do so on Sunday, 12 June.

Shooter turnout was low (3 brave souls) in 4 celcius with RDF, but we managed to shoot at 300 and 600 in what turned out to be a knife-fight with full value winds from 9 o'clock, veering quickly to 12 and back at random intervals.

Like you would expect, groups on the plotting diagrams were...a little flat. :D

Having said all that, we find ourselves in desperate need of gun nutters to come out and have some fun with us.

All you need is a $30 limited associate membership in the DCRA. This is purely for insurance purposes. You can get them through their website:

http://www.dcra.ca/contactus.htm

The dates we will be shooting are:

June 11th & 12th
June 25th & 26th
All five weekends in July
Aug 6th & 7th
Sept 10th & 11th
Sept 24th & 25th.

We will be shooting 2 sighters and ten rounds on score at 300, 500 and 600 yards and we would be very happy to take whatever time is required to help you get on the target with whatever bang stick you bring.

Drop me a line or just come on out. I'll try to find some directions to the range and post them here, unless someone reading this has them close to hand.

ARs and Enfields are acceptable, run what you brung. We won't laugh unless you bring your SKS. :p

Good Shooting,

Pete

This weekend

There will be shooting this weekend at Cambrai.

Gate opens about 0900.

Saturday weather looks good - finally!

I'm headed to Ottawa for an FClass match but the other lads will be there.

Pack a lunch and blow the dust off that long gun.

:)

Viper 7 (Peter S) is the one to get in touch with. Send him a PM. He is in CBS.
They will accomidate any new shooter.
Don't be surprised if you become hooked though.

Come on out, the more the merrier.

You need a DCRA mbrship, so give Kathy a call.

Otherwise, bring lots of ammo and we'll get you sorted out and hitting the target when you get there.

Peter

Shoot tomorrow

Any brave souls who want to burn some powder tomorrow, come on down!

Gate opens at 0900.

Yeah, it's supposed to rain. what, you made of sugar? :p

See you there.

Hello I am very interested. Is this the range close to st. johns if so I have shot there before but it was with the CF. I didn't know I could shoot there outside the military and would love to.

Its near Makinsons, less than an hour outside the city.

can you send me some info on how to get there and when, what will be going on. thanks

You need to get a membership from the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association (DCRA). I will PM you a contact number there. You should also send a PM to viper7 (Pete S.) on this board.

As for getting there, take the TCH east from St. John's until you reach Route 71 (heading into the Bay Roberts/Carbonear area). Take Route 71 and then, stay on the main road instead of going on to Bay Roberts. Take Hodgewater Line and then right to go down the hill. The dirt road to Cambrai Range is a short distance away on your left. There is a sign posted at the turnoff.

You can shoot anything you like up to .338 LM.

A shooting day usually consists of two sighters and ten rounds on score at 300yds, 500 yds and 600 yds. 36 rounds total. We are not running matches however, and we will work with you as much as you need to get your rifle hitting the paper. You can shoot as much or as little as you want.

Ideally you should have a rifle with a scope, or a spotting scope as every shot you fire will be scored with a red disk so you can keep track of your shots on a plotting diagram. Bring a clipboard and a pen and I will bring you some diagrams. If you have a groundsheet or something to lie down on it will help keep you comfy, but it is not a requirement.

A bipod or rest for the front of your rifle and a sandbag, etc for under the butt will help a lot. Targets are supplied.

Ear protection is mandatory and eye protection is recommended, and bring a lunch. Bring a book too, because you will likely be asked to take a turn as a sentry on the front gate, we rotate through that duty.

Gates usually open around 9AM

Did I miss anything? :D

I'm not sure if we are shooting this weekend, but when I find out I will post it here.

:welcome:

Thanks for the reply. I would love to try the 300,5oo,600 yards.
I shoot at St Johns Rod and Gun club but would love to try the longer range shoots. I won't be available this weekend but will be available weekends after that.
Thanks
Dan

Good to see lots of activity on the rock despite the weather,if you go east of St. John's if I recall you should bring you hip rubbers a slicker, and can hold your breath for a long time,I think he understands you meant west on the TCH,I have inlaws all around Cupids and Makinsons and a friend there with lots of firearms. I am just getting back into shooting after a long time away ,perhaps I could drop in once in a while, ( I am there quite often) and try my luck and get a few pointers from some long range guys ,although nothing will fix 56 year old eyes ;0)
Cheers guys Have fun!

I understand that I would have to pay the $30. no problemo, glad to support the cause.
