ACR: First Impressions

I think you mean RFB....

Rifle
Forward ejecting
Bullpup

The ACR is 5.56, and you can hunt with anything non- restricted ...

Thanks PBR. I'm glad you caught that, I'll go edit my post right away... (lesson to self - no more posting at 2 AM) :p

You can hunt yotes but you can't deer with .223 in Manitoba (and some other provinces).

Would have to change the barrel to 6.8 SPC.

In my mind, ACR has very little street credit because all the cool people are fighting to stomp on the brand name bushmaster. They should just drop the brand name bushmaster and make everything under the Remington brand.

People value magpul's brand, but they see bushmaster as a K-Mart brand. If they put Magpul's name on the ACR, lots of people probably think 2500 is not a big deal. however, no one is going to pay 2500 bucks for K-Mart branded product even if it is designed by Gucci. Bushmaster mistaken thought that they are the "Target" of the gun world.

OK you guys have probably seen this. But its so f****** funny it deserves a repeat after greentips comments... :D

Hope this works, I've never uploaded a video before.

Hitler finds out how much the new Bushmaster ACR will cost

Crap! Anybody know how to fix this?

They will do 10X better just by changing the brand - they will do 20X better if they ditch that ridiculous M4 profile barrel for a light weight profile like SCAR. They will do 30X if they start simplifying the QD mech and figuring why they need a piston rod guide in the mid section of the barrel.

The dream for a new US carbine is dead - there is no money for it. Even if it happens, I doubt it can beat(and I do not believe it can) HK416, SCAR or the Beretta AR160...or even the GD XM8.

Well said :):) 100% agreed. having bushmaster on its name is the most devastating marketing error

Have yet to shoot mine but IMO I am very happy with the look and feel so far. Just want a folding stock, vertical grip, and waiting for optics to show up. I am happy to add it to my collection of black rifles.

I shot mine this weekend (stock barrel). Vertical stringing if shooting from cold (1/2" each shot for 5 rounds done in fairly quick succession). 100 meter 10 shot group (warm barrel) just under 3". This was with bargain bin 55 grain ammo.

Nice gun to shoot, very little lift on rapid groups - easy to stay on target. 200 rounds, no failures of any kind, worked flawlessly.

Thanks for the range report. How did you find the weight/balance?

The only thing I had mounted was an ACOG. It was a bit heavy but not enough that it bothered me. Didn't notice the balance - sorry, was having too much fun shooting it (so I'm thinking it wasn't too bad...).

So how come we aren't seeing any new ACR review or accuracy threads? I'm very interested in seeing what these rifles can do. Especially with the non restricted match barrel.

That's because the Questar NR ACR's are still in the mail. The second it lands, I'll be doing some accuracy testing.

Hitler makes some interesting points regarding the ACR.

They are interesting... but the reality is that the gun came in @ $1,000 higher than expected, and that's why everyone has hammered it for the few quirks (heavier barrel, 1:9 twist, safety location, weight, etc.) None of these are necessarily "deal killers" on a $1,500 firearm, but on a $2,500 one - these plus the Bushmaster brand is a death knell (at least in the USA).

I've yet to hear anything really negative from actual ACR owners, though. And as stated, my first impressions were better than I was expecting. It's still essentially a Magpul Masada for all intents and purposes.

Thanks for the review Blaxsun. I don't think I can give up my 6.8SPC AR15 just yet given the price but I like what I see especially non-restricted. The only change I can afford to my AR right now is a Ace Ltd. part no. A500 folding mechanism for my skeleton stock so that is where I am going...enjoy the new rifle!

I think an aftermarket barrel in 6.8SPC would be a hot item for the ACR (because then you could hunt with it, and I think that would appeal to quite a few people).

Aren't there plans for 6.8 conversion kits for the ACR?

I don't think you can put enough of a premium on that factor alone. Having it non-restricted is golden.

The problem is the piston/quick-release assemblies, which Bushmaster is holding onto like Oprah with a baked ham... Without those you have to cannibalize your existing components. If anyone brings a 6.8SPC kit out it'll probably be Questar.

Blaxsun, thanks for the review. It made it less painful to pull the trigger on one of Questars non-restricted FDE ACRs. Transfer is done, just waiting on the tracking number

Is anyone gonna be able to bring in the folding stock? I really like the look of that robot boot...
