Normally I have no trouble finding values on a rifle I'm about to sell/trade, but this one has me a bit stumped. So, I thought I'd tap into the minds of the knowledgeable Remington aficionados from CGN.

It's a Remington Model 7 Custom Shop KS in 7mm-08. Condition is good, with minor wear. It had the gray leaf camo stock which I painted tan with black speckles. 20" bbl., looks to be factory Teflon coated. There are no markings indicating "Custom shop". The bbl. has no Remington markings or warnings, only "7mm-08" stamped on it. From what I can find this seems to be accurate.

Not much info on gunbroker and other sites, a couple I found but prices seem a bit high ?!?!?

So what's it worth?

Is it the mcmillan stocked version? I think some had brown precision stocks and believe they use B&C stocks now.

Seen them go anywhere from $800-$1700 depending on stock and cartridge. Epps had a used one not too long ago that listed at $1400.

A call to remington with the serial # should get you more details.

I'll maybe give Remington a call.
How does one tell whether it's a Brown or B&C stock?

Got an e-mail reply from Remington. It is indeed a KS Custom Shop, build date 1991. Stock is a Brown's.
After some deliberating, I've decided to hang onto it, at least for now.

Well, its a fine lightweight rig, and you don't see too many around, at least not with the Mcmillan or Brown stocks. Needs talley LW rings though...:p

I'd like to get some lighter rings/mounts but I think I'm stuck with a one piece base due to there being only one rear screw hole. Any options aside from tapping a 2nd hole?
Weaver makes a 1pc for a 3 hole and a 2pc set for 4 hole Model Sevens.

Drilling another hole in the rear bridge isn't a bad option.

Nice rifle, that 7/08. :)

I have all the fixens here for a M700 faux TI in 7/08. Just got to get around to getting it done.

- Matte blued and trued 700 BDL action.
- SS TI bbl in 7/08.
- TI take off stock.
- Talley LW ex-low rings.
- Leupold VXII 2x7 or FX-II 4x matte.
- Redding dies.
- Got bullets, need brass. (Got brass thanks to Blargon :) )

Weaver,hmmmmm....... while I don't much care for the Leupold/Redfield style with the rear windage screw that's currently on there, I think I like the Weaver aluminum rail even less.
Maybe I'll look into the Leupold dual dovetail, or leave it as is. :D

Tapping the 4th hole isnt a big deal, but if you dont want to I believe Gentry Custom makes ultralight rings and 2 piece bases for the older 3 holers. I think they advertise them as weighing 1 ounce.

I once had a Model Seven three holer with Weaver bases, the rear base was made for one screw. Worked fine, it was in 308. With a one piece base there are still only three screws between the base and the receiver.
Also, the Seven takes the same one piece base as a short 700.

I never could understand the disdain some folks have for the Weaver style mounts. With good rings, it's strong, reliable, lightweight and versatile. It's the most copied system out there and for good reason.

I've been using them for years on my 375Magnums and everything smaller with never once a problem.

Thanks, I'll check into that option.

Which lightweight rings would you recommend for a Weaver base? I'm only familiar with tactical style ones and they'd be heavier than what I have.

Weavers do what they are designed to do, they're just too "square" or something and feel like like they're made out of recycled cans, a personal preference, nothing else.
The rings on the other hand can drive one nuts trying to align the scope crosshairs when mounting....... :runaway:

There are many weaver style rings out there. Everything from LW aluminum to heavy steel types. Even the bases come in either steel or aluminum depending on the rifle used on. That kind of flexability is their biggest advantage.

I like Burris rings on aluminum bases. Lighter than and all-steel Leupold setup. The original Weaver rings are boxy looking but do work very well and are reported to be quite good as a QD ring.
