I am starting to look at getting a new air gun and I was wondering if there is any good buy at CT, especially that I just saw in the flyers that most of their pellet gun are on sale right now. I kinda lean toward the Ruger blackhawk because it's got iron sights on it. By the way I am not really into airguns all I want is something good to replace my 30 some years old Baikal that I had to shimed the hell out of the main spring to get something decent out of it.

Thanks

the airguns there it is what it is nothing fancy or anything. and nothing wrong with being into airguns, you can get some real nice ones on cabelas.ca and use it for birds and small game.

I never said that there was anything wrong with being into airguns. Freak, I bet you that the first ever rifle that most us got was an airgun and that is exactly why I need a new one lol.

i bought one of these canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Airguns/AirRifles/PRD~0755033P/Benjamin+.22+Air+Rifle.jsp?locale=en
(not for that price)

it packs pellets ontop of each other, so long as you get used to the trigger first ;)

I got a couple of canadian tire air guns as well as 5 other rifles and a couple shotguns. Still cant beat the airgun for going and and destroying some pop cans. With 500 pellets for $5 its a nice way to spend a day shooting without breaking the bank. nd yes, my first gun was a CZ pellet gun when I was 12. Loved that gun but I figured I could shoot finishing nails wrapped in toilet paper from it, moral of my story, dont try shooting stuff out of a pellet gun that isnt designed to be shot from one lol. Good luck on your search

Looks good but no iron sights.

Any feedbacks on the Ruger??

Have you checked out the D&L Airguns site?

They have some of the stuff that is a bit better than the hardware store grade stuff that CTire sells, and it's not a lot more expensive...Good place to do some comparison shopping, in any case.

Take a look at the Diana/RWS 240, or the Weihrauch HW30 (albeit more than your budget by a fair bit).

Check out the Canadian Airgun Forum buy and sell, and shop used to drive up the buying power of your $200.

Considered rebuilding the Baikal? If you are happy enough with it except for performance issues, a new spring and a set of seals (Piston and breech) along with appropriate lubes and greases, may be an option.

Cheers

Thanks for all the info, one more questions for you. Do you have a good source for Baikal spare parts? because I am more than happy with this one. I have shot it so much that I am sure that the lawn behind the house where I grew up is lead contaminated so it will be very nice if I could keep using it. Any idea how much FPS out of this gun after a rebuilt?

Looks a bit too expensive. Any suggestions for a 200$ range with iron sights air gun?

Slavia 630's are $200, come with iron sights and really the best bang for the buck. PM me if you like, I may know where there is a new one on a store shelf.

I'd dig around online if I wanted spares. But like as not, either D&L or Airgunsource could help you out for Baikal parts. If you have a digital caliper, you can measure the inside, outside, and wire diameters, count coils, etc., and shop for a generic or exact replacement spring. Seals is gonna depend on what is in there and whether they can be reused or not.

Don't expect miracles or super powers out of it. But you should be able to return it to somewhere near stock performance.

Well I guess I have it all figured out : CT is a no go, Slavia looks really interesting but I will start looking for parts first and see hoew expensive it is.

Thanks a bunch guys.

I looked at three CanTire stores in BC, was not impressed, prices were seemingly higher than they should be, and the airguns were mediocre IMO.

At Walmart, they had two really decent airguns: a Winchester .177 with beautiful wood and a 4x scope for just $120, and a Crossman Phantom .22 pellet 495fps, for just $99. I bought the Phantom, a scope to go with it. Its tough, handles nicely, good trigger, built to last a long time (except all these new air rifles use plastic "iron sights" that will break quick). It's a tackdriver, and I've been stocking up on hunting conicals for it since then! Same store has 500 hollow pellets for $12, and 175 pointy hunters for $5.50, so about 3 cents per shot!

Whatever scope you get, MAKE SURE it was made for airguns...the spring vibration will kill a firearm scope, because the forces are opposite direction. I got a $40 Walther brand scope, looks to be exactly the same as a Beeman scope from Walmart and other places. Very clear, happy with it, and it's nice to have the Walther logo on it even if its just their name on a Chinese scope (like the Beeman).

IMO you wont do as well at CanTire, and to do better than me, go check the true airgun enthusiasts.

I suppose its too late but check out wal mart, If I can help it I would only buy from CT if it was on sale, I think their regular prices are too high. I would look at the online dealers first

You should check out Jim Macarri in the states, he may have the springs and the seals for that baikal. Depends on the exact model. I would fix the baikal.
