hey guys, just asking if you culd have a 7mm what would it be, for cost effective reloading aswell... excluding 708 , more the faster 7s..

thanks!
wl

Agreed, even the difference from my 7mm-08 to 7mm WSM is hardly worth anything, I can load 150 grain grain bullets to with 100-150 ft/sec between the two, hardly worth the powder increase and jump in recoil.

MY opinion is anything over 280 & the volumne of powder goes up way more than the velocity result!

nah, i love the 708, my cuz has one... i put him onto it.. love it. i use a 270win but would like somethin a bit quicker, just like SAUM maybe WSM even or rem mag.. just looking for thoughts an opinions..
cheers

other idea is a 300wsm but if me an my cuz can use same powder an same projies in 7mm, would save a bit doin it that way...
an i guess all 7m come with the 24inch barrel?

They are all good in different ways..I have a couple 280s, a 7mm-08,a 7mm Mag, and 7mm WSM. I like em all. If I had to choose just one I guess I would go with the .280 Rem.

At the present time I have a .280 Rem,a .280AI and a 7SAUM.I've previously owned other .280s,a 7 Mag and a .284Win.If I had ti choose just 1 of these 7mms it would be the 7SAUM. Mur

7 WSM is almost dead but still magnificent!

7 WSM is a superb cartridge, one of the best cartridge introduced since 7 Rem Mag, unfortunately it does not do anything more than 7 Rem Mag and got killed in the market by 270 WSM.

Still, 7 WSM is one of the most accurate long range cartridges, fits in a short action, is as powerful as 7 Rem Mag, has better barrel life, lower recoil.
The only downsides compared to 7mm-08 Rem is shorter barrel life and the fact that the cartridge is commercially dead.

One final thing, 7mm-08, 280 Rem, 7 WSM and 7 Rem Mag are all great cartridges and differ basically in long range effectiveness, recoil and barrel life.

My last build was a 7mm Rem Mag, Sako L61R action, Ron Smith 26'' s/s gain twist barrel and a custom Bell and Carlson stock...A very sweet shooting versitile rifle....

If 7-08 is really too slow for you then you may as well jump straight to 7mm STW...RUM if STW is still too slow for you

7mm RM is really popular and is fairly well balanced....just a little boring :D

yeah, more i think about it a short action would be nice-r but rum is definatley one to consider. mostly shooting 140-160 gr hunting projie.

7 saum is becoming very popular. I like 7 mag though, either rem mag or wby. Anything over 7 rem mag or 7 wby is getting quite overbore, I have a sako in 7mm lazzeroni firebird. Now thats an inefficent powder burning hog! I'm a big fan of the 2.5" magnums, .338 win, .308 norma, 7 rem, 7 wby, .257 wby etc.

I have a 7mm mag in a Tikka that is just awesome. Great cartirdge. I also have a 7X57.
Sure the mag has more power and is faster...etc BUT (and this is just my opinon), the 7X57 will do the same job and the 7X57 uses less powder.

The 7X57 has a long history and has been proven over and over to be effective on most NA game. It is a great cartridge.

7mm

In my opinion cost of reloading would be neglible on the different 7mm's. I went through the same decision some years ago and chose the 7mm mag, simply for the reason you can down load, if required to duplicate the less powerfull 7's.
