Is it just me, or does the SKS safety dig into your trigger finger? Mine has sat in the back of the safe since the 1980's and I've decided to chase out the spiders and fire off a few rounds. That safety bugs me! Has anyone else taken a grinder to theirs? I think I will....

I trimmed mine down some for the same reason, it dug into my trigger finger. because the piece of the saftey that does the work is inside the trigger guard you can cut all you want off of the part that is outside the guard.

It doesn't dig into my finger, perhaps my grip is different. I personally would change my grip before taking a grinder to a safety, but it is your rifle, what ever works for you.

Maybe it's the Chinese version of the rifle? I just handled a Russian SKS and it didn't bother my trigger finger. I will have to compare the two side-by-side.

I have the Simonov. To me it seems to fit a lefty better. I shoot left, but after putting an ATI stock on it, I held it right handed, and the safety on my trigger finger was the first thing I noticed, as I found annoying. If I shot right handed, I'ld be revamping it.

You maybe holding the trigger wrong, Are you holding it by the joint or pad of your finger tip?

Comparison

I examined the Russian and Chinese versions (sorry, no pics) and found some differences:
- the Russian safety is a better-finished piece with a longer strut
- the Chinese sticks out farther to the right, away from the trigger guard
- the part that you push with your finger is wider on the Chinese gun
- the inlet on the stock above the trigger on the right side is different

So, it's not just me and the Chinese gun is getting a re-shaped safety lever.

You have just given me another reason to take my sks out of the safe... thank you.:D

Im a leftie so have never had any problem with the safety lever rubbing the trigger finger the wrong way on my 1950 Russian..

On the other hand, pun intended;)... I could almost see an issue but not sure if it would rub the right trigger finger, on mine anyways.

My Chinese and Russians are much the same, I can't imagine how you could be holding the rifle, presumably people's hands are different.

As I pointed out, the difference is the guns. I tried two Russians with no problem. but the Chinese safety sticks out. To make matters worse, I put it into a Tapco stock with pistol grip and it really becomes annoying!
I promise to take pictures before and after the grinder eats Chinese.
