When my grandfather passed away, I inherited his old Mossberg 400G 12ga. He had bought it new in the 70's and it saw a lot of use and it showed. Shortly after I got it, I replaced the 30" full-choked barrel with a new 28" one with a few screw in chokes, allowing steel and skeet shooting.

I refinished the stock and used tru-oil on it and replaced the hard rubber pad with a Kick-eze. Recently I picked up a camo slug barrel for it, and blasted the barrel, mag tube and gloss black receiver, then applied arma coat over it. Grandpa would likely chuckle and shake his head...:D

The contrast of the Tru Oiled wood and the new finish looks great. I have some Mossbergs that I may do the same to this winter. Thanks for the great post. I feel there is no smoother pump than a broken in 400/500 series Mossberg.

Thanks guys. I've used this one to take many ducks, a few geese, a few turkeys, many grouse, countless clay targets, and hopefully in December it will take a deer with the new barrel. After 2 sighter shots yesterday, it was putting Copper Solids into a 3" bullseye consistently at 100yds.

I should have taken a pic before I blasted it, looked pretty funny with the gloss black receiver and a camo barrel.:D

That is a beauty.
Maybe send in a photo to Mossberg and tell them that if they wish to
increase their sales, well this is how some should look.
Great job.
Cheers.

They are more interested in camo and tactical crap, because that's what the magazines and TV pushes...

For those that have an interest, this is a Lakefield Mossberg, made in Lakefield, ON.

Where do you get arma coat in Canada?

beauty gun, BTW

You can get it from Murdoc on here, or TSE. Shipped via canada post.

Nice looking gun. I inherited some guns from my dad when he passed and one of them was a Lakefield Mossberg 400G. You just gave me some ideas on what to do with it.
Thanks for sharing.
