The best advice I can give, is have fun !
Wear a lifejacket !
I would not have my gun attached to the gunwale...
Have a dry change of clothes... comfy clothes...
Careful of your prop on any shallows...have extra pins and a few simple tools (screwdriver, thumbwrench, etc.
Have your eyes peeled...it's easy to be fixated on the river...watch the shores...
Be ready when you go around the bends...
Set out at before dawn....
For the evening, make camp and walk the shorelines..banks..
If you float and hunt in the evening and get an anmal, you need to
1) take care of the animal and then 2) Make Camp
which can be tiring or not optimal depending on the work involved with animal and darkness...
When you get the animal on board, distribute the weight so you can still run the motor as close to plane as possible...without risking being to heavy in the stern....a lot of weight up front will make for slow going and difficult control...
Have your gear securely tied or strapped to your canoe...if you dump, it will all be there when you get your canoe back....
