Why I feel that the Ruger M77 tang safety is the best hunting rifle ever made.

In my opinion there is no better rifle out there. I have owned, shot, hunted with and even built my 338-06 on the Ruger tang safety. They are one of the most accurate rifles out of the box, of the several dozen I have had from 22-250 - 338Win Mag they have all been capable of MOA groups at 100 yards with factory loads, even better with hand loads. The action is smooth and slick. The adjustable trigger has never disappointed me. My grip doesn't need to change as my thumb sits on the safety, requiring a simple push or pull. The fit and feel is par to no other rifle. To me there is no need to spend huge amounts of cash on a high end rifle as long as I can get my hands on a Ruger M77 tang safety.

this is why I feel the Ruger tang safety is the best and is purely my humble opinion. So feel free to agree or disagree.

You won't get any disagreement from me. Most of the rifles I own are Rugers and I have a .300 Winchester Magnum (tang safety) that is one of my all time favorite hunting rifles. I agree about the accuracy. For a hunting grade rifle, out of the box, it is exceptional. They are a tough and rugged rifle. The more you use it, the smoother the action gets. I certainly love mine.
I had to chuckle to myself however, when I saw your title: Ruger tang safety. I have had that rifle for many years and last year the tang safety switch flew off! Thought maybe you were going to talk about the same thing. I have to order a new one. Doesn't change my feelings about the rifle though.
 
Well heres hopin. I just picked up a 458 Winmag in a tang safety Ruger. I did notice the action was smooth as silk and the trigger is sweet. Have yet to shoot it yet.
 
I like them but I've traded out mine for M77 Mk2 rifles over the years. I prefer the canoe paddle stocks and the three position safety, while the three position is not quite as handy I just feel that it is a better safety.

I prefer the heavier wood stock on the 300 mag but you're are right about the 3 position being a better safety. And I am willing to bet one hasn't flown off of a Mk II yet. :D
 
The tang safty on mine wasn't very safe. When I carried it hunting, my hand around the wrist of the stock would accidently push the safety off.
First I thought it was because I had gloves on, but had it do it with bare hands, even when I knew it could happen and was trying to be careful.
I told Ruger about it and they suggested I take it to a gunsmith and have him tighten it up! Big deal, it came from the factory like that, why should I have to pay for fixing their defect?

Exact same here. Do a lot of brush digging/dogging and would look down and safety had been moved inexplicably to the fire position - ??? Thought it may be a fluke but happened several more times so swore off tang safeties altogether. They don't suit me. I like Ruger's 3 position safety and have them now.
 
I never carry a rifle with a round in the tube. Except sometimes for the last 20-50 yds of a stalk, then the rifle is in my hands, fingers behind the trigger guard. (and this is only so the sound of loading a round won't spook the sheep, caribou etc.) I never relied on a safety, it just doesn't feel right.

Just to clarify - I use the safety more it seems but I never "rely" on it. It's a mechanical device that can fail - muzzle control is paramount as always. I do HUNT with one up the spout when conditions IMO permit safe use that way. I feel OK with that (used semis lots -no chambering them quietly). But regardless of exactly when a round goes up the spout (that will vary with hunters) a safety should stay on until it is intentionally pushed off to fire.

Probably the way I carry it too - my hand hold would sometimes push the tang button forward without my knowing. Just saying - be aware. IMO the Ruger 77 tang safety is a fine rifle but not "best" for me - my opinion.
 
I have owned several of the tang safety Rugers, and really liked them all. My go-to rifle has always been my Browning A-Bolt micro Medallion in .308 (for the last 20 years or so) so I guess the tang safety just seems right to me too.
