remove

I tried to move the non adjustable rear sight on my CZ Shadow with reasonable striking force on a hickory drift using a not too small hammer and it will not move . I removed the set screw and can only assume some of the lock tight used on the setscrew has wicked into the dovetail . I have seen handheld presses for pressing out the sight in the dovetail but you would think it would move a little when on the range with a drift and hammer. Anyone know the solution ?

PM sent.

I have the same problem, I need to go to the right a bit, tried a large hammer with a brass punch but no luck. I am thinking I am trying to move it into the taper of the rear sight dovetail and that is why I can not move it. I am also waiting on a sight mover to arrive so I can give that a try.

James.

FYI:

CZ has 'dove cut' in slide tapered where rear sight is supposed to be installed from right to left and removed from left to right. They use glue to secure rear sight in place in addition to set screw/s. Shadows dated 2009 and on have ONE screw, older ones - 2008 and older - have TWO screws.
Shadows made in 2009-on have issues with rear sight, where it moves during regular gun use.
Best way to remove/install/adjust 'non-adjustable' rear sight on CZ is by using sight pusher.

I had another gun where the rear sight was very tight. The cure was to strip down the gun and clamp the slide only in my big metal working vise using pads of heavy cardboard stock to prevent marring. It only takes a firm pinch of the jaws to hold it. Don't crush the poor thing. With the slide held securely in the vise it then didn't take much of a tap at all to move the sight itself. The problem with doing it at the range is that there isn't any support to back up the slide so you just end up with things bouncing around. And at no time should you use a drift and hammer while the gun is actually assembled.

OP is welcome to call and then stop by 'local gunsmith' to get the fix; usually $80...

Bruce - get proper 'sight mover' if you do the job a couple of times a year or so.

I've had the same issue with my Shadow and used the brass drift and vice approach to adjust the sight position. I tightened the set screw, but should I use removeable Loctite to make sure it stays put?

Yes, use blue on the setscrew. Use a cleaner/degreaser on the male & female threads first.
