Flip-Flop recoil pad

I really like this idea a lot and am going to do the same thing to my own 9.3, so I obviously don't want to take anything away from Ted, but when I do mine I'm going to use Barge cement. It's a quick drying contact cement used by cobblers on shoes and such and I use it a lot on my leather work. It bonds like the iron and will not come off, actually growing stronger as time goes by.
 
Barge is available in lots of hardware stores and shoe repair shops, but I usually get mine from Tandy Leather.

As to cutting my own hair, as a matter of fact I do.
 
Hi Ted. :)In preparation for the first day of fall arriving tomorrow, I was putting away some of this summers 'apparel' and in doing so, your project came to mind. I see potential for use in standard caliber long guns, and the magnums.

Yes, it is Johnn. If it were refinished, it would look really good.

Figured it to be a perfect candidate for a flip-flop. Used Marine Tex Gray (which cures dark black) to glue it to the stock this time, and it is virtually invisible in the finished job.

I did my first FF pad this summer. It works great but the pad will flatten out if the gun is stored vertically for a week or two.
A week on its side and it regains it's shape.

If you come across any smaller or short end pieces of nicely figured wood like that, I wonder if you could put them aside for me. Starting out for 'wet coast' rainy day projects, I'm prepping to start out carving handgun grips. Down the road, we'll see how it goes but handgun grips should keep me out of mischief in the immediate future.

Sounds good Ted. Let me know the details. In a weekly buy & sell here on Wednsedays during the summer, there's a gentleman selling wood carving items and I've picked up some decent odds & ends from him. I have an order of checkering and related items coming from Brownell's I expect to arrive , soon I hope. Mind you, it's been quite a while since I placed my order so seeing will be believing.
 
Quick report on the flip flop that I recently put on the 300 Win Mag. Took it to the range at -25 to give it a try in very cold temp. Worked fine, softened recoil, and did not come apart. Wearing a parka, and it felt like shooting a 270.

So, they survive! :)

Next one is going on a 9.3X62.
