Well, its pretty much the same as most reports - light, straight shooter, and smooth action. T3 hunter, walnut ss 300 wsm - I put optiocks and a bushnell 6500 2.5-16x on it...
The gun was really light - a tad front heavy as the walnut was really light - came with a factory hard rubber recoil pad....
I did the shoot 10, clean, shoot 10, clean, one more time, then let'r rip till it settles down - grouped 1.5 -2 "at 100... took about 50 rnds then I had it shooting 1.5" 3 shot at 200yds! This without any trigger tinkering, or any adjusting OTHER than the action screws - they came a bit on the light side, so I tightened to spec and the groups really tightened up to where they are now, and consistant groups at that! Must be that the funky recoil lug needs to be really snug....
However...
My first three shots off a rest my brain said to me "why the heck would anyone want a gun that kicks like this!!!!" it hurt, like it really kicked, more than a 7mmRM i had shot for a while... and I'm a big guy at 240... 3 shots and i'm on the verge of flinching....
Off came the rubber pad and on went a limbsaver... wayyy better, now a good solid push rather than (as mentioned earlier) a SMACK!.... but it was still really front heavy, which isn't my gig....
I took off the limbsaver and put the stock in a press and made a nice clean hole about 3" deep (on a press/jig set-up), then filled with lead and epoxy a little at a time to get a nice balance, which for me is more preff than a unbalanced light gun... took three sessions, two small holes, and about a 1/2 cup of lead - but now I have a gun that is balanced between trigger and magazine, points and shoots really good, super easy to carry, and a tamed recoil.... it is actually fun to shoot and now find myself impatient waiting for the barrel to cool down!
I tried a few loads, but it liked best a good dose of re17 and a 180 accubond. It wont shoot 165ttsx with the 4 powders I tried, but will try the ttsx again after a couple hundred rounds...
Time till tell how it holds up, but I'm thinking it'll be a keeper!
In my books, a good buy, and a fun gun to shoot!

I bought a 300WSM T-3 light synthetic/blued and fired 9 rounds at the bench...
Sold it the same day,here...It has a Limbsaver pad on it too...OUCH...

my T3 lite 30-06 kicks more than people believe it does when I tell them.. its light and stock recoil pad.. hornady 180 superformance out of it really "smack" you good.

really needs to put a limb saver on it.. other than that I like it. If I buy another tikka it will be the hunter version to get some more weight

As requested, here are some range pics from yesterday - this is the 200yd range, unfortunately you cant see the target with the naked eye...

I was testing my tweaked load with great results - rp brass, win primer, rl17@66.2g, 180 accubond - my best group to date, which measured just a hair over 1/2" center to center at 200!!!! Thats a keeper!

I was too lazy to set up my chrono, but once on the bullseye at 200, I did shoot at 300 and 400yds to measure drop - I took this loads trajectory and 'reverse' engineered a velocity from the many ballistic calculators online - what it says is for the setup & bullet drop I have, the velocity of this load should be around 3050fps. Prob could load to go faster as I have zero pressure signs, but I like the accuracy of this load -

Lookout moose!

It Sure is fun when you can trouble shoot/diagnose and cure accuracy problems!
Your target is proof of that.
Be sure to repeat this at least three times to come up with an accurate average.

You should actually chrony your loads just to have other info thats important.
Such as extream spread, standard deviation, etc.

I have had loads that had a horrible standard deviation, yet shoot well up close.
Then fell apart at extended ranges.

The variables catch up somewhere.
The better the load stats, the further that distance is.

Have fun with you rifle! Its doing well!

So you are not interested in trying my T3 Light in .338 Win Mag? :p

It weighs 6.5lbs with a 2.5x Leupold and the 250's at 2700 certainly get a fellow's attention - and it still wears the factory hockey puck (although not for long!).

Just shot my T3 in 7mag an hour ago. First shot dead center 2" high EXACTLY where I left it last year.

Getting low on ammo so I had to load up some more. Didn't have any R22 so had to try some H4831. First load 3/4 of an inch. Load development done.

Nice shooting on your walnut 300WSM. I've often wondered if most of of Tikka T-3s are all on the light side for caliber...? I like the Tikka action on them.

I have a 223 heavy stainless barrel. Very accurate right from the get go. I don't have the time to do my own loads and found that for some reason it likes the Winchester 55 grain power points. It's got a fast twist so I'd like to try the heavier PP 64 grainers but few places have those particular bullets in stock.

Could you guys give me the inch pound torque figures for the trigger guard screws on the stock. Sorry if i'm calling them the wrong thing. My t3 300wsm is giving me some grief. Best grouping i can get with barnes vortx 150 ttsx is about 2.5" with 4 shots. Gun is clean, scope is a zeiss conquest 3-9x40, rings are tally lightweights. Ballistics on the box show the bullet at 3310fps. Maybe too fast or should i be grouping better? I'm new to this but i'm not impressed with my gun so far.

I have a T3 Lite SS 300WM. My record is 16 rounds in the range, no pad and on T-shirt only. Ouch! But actually it kick less than my 870 with 3.5" turkey load!!!

It is my big game rifle, and I never need second shot from it.

They are both very accurate from what I've seen and heard.Go handle both of them and choose the one you like the most as they are both really good choice.I prefer the x-bolt for the stock fitment, the magasine design and the tang safety.

Never seen a stock rifle outperform a Tikka personally.
Friend bought a T-3 in 06 a number of yrs ago & asked me to show him how to reload. Came to house & we picked out 2 bullets he would use for hunting, & loaded 4 three round versions, 2 each bullet, 2 each diff powder. Went to range with a 3-9x mounted on it, set up sand bags for him, he'd never used them before. 1st three rounds went into 7/8", next three went into 9/16", next three went into 1/2" & then he said for me to try it...you bet!!! next three 9/16 again.
Couple yrs latter his brother purchased a Sako 300wm, it averages about an 1" with most rounds providing you don't get nervious with recoil.
I had to try one myself so purchased a T-3SS in 223 for chaseing wolves, granted it is a Lite version but shoots 3 round groups better than either above rifles & better than a Sako Varmint or a Ruger Varmint I had!

Do I like Tikka....w:h:

Senior, can i ask you a question about now you did the reloading for your friend? I'm about to do the same. I'll buy two different powders, probably IMR 4350 and H4350. My bullets are barnes 150 grain ttsx. I bought winchester magnum primers. I'm totally new to reloading but want to get my tikka shooting like yours. I have a redding 3 die set and a redding big boss 2 press. Should i start in the middle for powder loads recommended by barnes, and use 2 different powders? Ideally, should i load up 20 or so and go testing, or should i do more? I'm totally new to this. Thanks

Just so you know, I tried the Barnes LRX (which is the same as the TTSX) and could not get them to shoot untill I got to at least a .100 jump. Try a long jump like that in your Tika and see if it helps
