I am going to send my sks out from some custom engraving, a little scroll work mabey a hunting scene or two. Any suggestions from the crowd here?

I see nothing wrong with it at all as it is your Rifle, it is always cool to personalize your own gear no matter what it is.... if you go ahead with it post some pics.

Do with it what you will! And don't worry about all the military purists who have yet to make an appearance. Engraving that one makes yours move valuable to you, and makes all the others more waluable for our grandkids )

Just remember that when you want to sell it, a $169.00 SKS with $500.00 worth of aftermarket accessories has done nothing to make it more accurate and it is still a $169.00 SKS, no matter how "pretty" you make it look.

It will have to be anealed then reheat treated. Unless done by a laser engraver.
Sounds like a unique project but also an expense usually only reserved for top end guns. The engraving will most probably cost way more than the gun.

Just remember what Garand said, it will NOT increase the value much, if at all. But if it's a life-time firearm for you, it will be 100% unique.

As for designs, I'd skip the hunting scenes and go for Military stuff of the same era. Tanks, planes, perhaps the insignia of a soldier that would have carried it into battle.

I say the hammer and sickle logo something like this pic

You should engrave on the top receiver cover an image of a crow with a bar in its talons...."crowbar", because that is what the SKS is, and I mean that in a respectful way.

I've seen the pic of a young square jawed man in a leather apron with a hammer in his hand and a beauti of a Russian woman in a dress and apron with a sycle in on hand and a shiv of wheat in the other and the red star above them like the sun. Famous Russian Propaganda art piece.
That may look good....or you could depict a spetzna soldier but smashing Ossama Bin Ladden. Just kidding on the last one.

For all who does not like that. It is same as getting tattoo on your body. It is a piece of art that some people might not like.
What ever is important in your life right now that is what you should tattoo on your rifle.

Cheers
