10/22 Project Guns

Thanks folks. Having a hard time with this trigger. Gotta start over, the one I just finished isn't going to cut it. Hate starting over from scratch but no choice. Another day, patience is gone for the night.

Hope you're not too disappointed with the end result, its pretty crude. I'm not much of a welder and my sheetmetal-shaping skills start and end with a pair of snips and a ball peen hammer!

This is just the prototype: if it all comes together and works properly, I may try to refine it a bit in the future.

Going to attack this trigger problem and get it sorted tonight. Then all that's left is the stock.

Well, the real thing is a pretty crude thing too, so that makes it more authentic? ;)

Thompson

Hello from SK. I bought a basic Ruger to do a Thompson style gun. I have the tools and time to machine /weld the parts. I assume the kit is aluminum. Do you have an exploded view of the assembly process? Is the finned barrel available in Can.? Could turn some grooves on the original. This one looks better than some others.

Yeah its aluminum. It was sold by fabsports for a while, developed by a cgn member. Not sure if he got tired of making them or if they just weren't selling enough. I do know the kits were expensive, but he put a pile of work into them. Best thompson kit I've seen. Sometimes come up on the ee but they still aren't cheap.

Has anyone seen the p90 mod for the 10/22? You take a basic p90 airsoft stock and put a 10/22 into it. Not sure if it legal in Canada but it would be a fun side project.

Just why are they illegal in canada? I talked to Bernie at Center Balance, he said only cretin provinces gave trouble with the bullpup stocks

Not sure who Bernie is, but in Canada, it is illegal to own a bullpup style rifle OR the stock to make a rifle into a bullpup design.

Section 2 of Part 4 of the Schedule to the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and other Weapons, Components and Parts of Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted.

The relevant section of the Regulations includes as a prohibited device any “rifle, shotgun or carbine stock of the type known as the bull-pup design, being a stock that, when combined with a firearm, reduces the overall length of the firearm such that a substantial part of the reloading action or the magazine-well is located behind the trigger of the firearm when it is held in the normal firing position.”

So then could i buy a bullpup kit for my 10/22 if it was made just for that gun?

No, it's not like the 10" barrel rule -i.e. it's not a matter of whether you made the kit or a factory did. To be legal Bullpups have to be bullpups from the factory. There can't be a version of the rifle that doesn't require a bullpup stock.

How about this: forget the outrage of the bullpup stock law. Anybody out there have a rimfire they've turned into something different? Let's see what you've done. I use the 10/22 because its so easy to work with (although maybe I should have gone with a gevarm for this project. Open bolt would be a bit more authentic).

Let's make this a showcase of cgn innovation instead of another "this law sucks" discussion.

I can't be the only one who does things not intended by the manufacturer! Let's see what you got, keep it legal and keep it original. An Sr-22 with a Canadian tire red dot doesn't cut it folks, turn your rimfire into a clone of something different.
