Quick question, are these guys still making rifles for CF and export? Curious as over in the UK there will be a requirement for a new service rifle in the next 5 to 10 years and we currently have no maunfacturing base for such an tem. Calibre and other such issues aside I expect it will be a PITA to organise!
The old days of asking Enfield to change the rifle to a different calibre and a few months down the road along comes the trials riifle have long gone, sunk under a housing estate like most of our arms plants. In fact we dont even make propellant, we just fill nowadays using French powders.

Colt canada still manufactures arms in kitchener, ontario! Where I live! Lol.
Not sure about export but I'm pretty sure the C8 is made by them.

A succes story for once then, be nice to see the contract go to our cousins rather than elsewhere especially Europe. Be nice if an EU firm won to get a small licensed plant working here again but I cant see that!

Yeah. The facility here is pretty small too, for a factory anyways.
Any jobs brought to canada are good jobs! Arms manufacturing would bring many jobs here.

I guess with the liquidation of Sabre Defence in the UK there's not too many options left over there.

I wish the Police Sterling was still getting made!

I dont think they were ever in contention as they made very little in the Uk if I am briefed correctly!

Some of the countries that use the Diemaco products are, The Dutch Netherlands, Denmark,Norway, New Zealand, Irish Republic and The British Special forces. There are others that use on a VERY limited scale. The type of weapon varies. Picture in your minds eye, how long would it take to make enough weapons to arm our CF? They've been producing since the early '80s and have been exporting for just as long.

Interesting to hear they have been going for so long! I wonder how long it would take to produce say 150000 rifles? I can't imagine more than 200 000 being needed!

The norwegian bought HK 416 for full issue - C8 and SG were in the trial. Before the HK416, some norge units had bought C8 and HKG3.

They only have about 100 employees, and I would have to gather about 25 of them are management. They are gonna have to expand quite a bit if they are gonna want to the contracts to make the new CF pistol, the new ranger rifle, as well as maintain the current CF C7's and deal with offshore military and local LE contracts. I doubt they can do it without going bankrupt.

Who says they are going to make everything in house. They will be a part of accepting shipments and pushing them and parts into the supply system. They will also play a part in maint and refurb. Look at what they are doing with the C14 and Big Mac and you will have an idea.

I would be surprised if the UK did not replace the SA-80 with a rifle built under license in the UK. They will probably make it a requirement of the tender.

I didn't say these countries were ARMED with our rifles. I said they bought some of our weapons. They use them in special purpose. Along side their own.

TimC Are you sure about the timeline?

Yes, I was in when the weapons changed over and 15 years on each side of that. We did the change from 84-87 and they were in production for that.

I was going by how the DND request stated "for National Security reasons, the weapons will be produced in Canada by Colt Canada under license". I would assume that that meant the majority of the components were to be produced by colt canada.

Since the UK got the LWRC 762 rifles .. I can see the M16 pattern rifle a possibility. At least if they bought Colt Canada rifles than they wouldnt need to send them all to Germany to get fixed ;)
