Floro MK9

500-800 and I would buy one...

FLORO became popular in the early 90s importing and refurbishing Vietnam era 1911s. They price it to be competitive with new Norincos and other low cost variants of 1911. During this period, these pistols were recovered by Vietnamese authorities and sold to interested parties on bulk basis. They were disassembled, sorted for good parts, refinished and re-assembled. Those with heavy pitting were bead blasted, tightened and hard-chromed resulting in somewhat a tight fit. Then, they ventured in designing military pistols and rifles from existing designs whose patent has been cleared as the legendary 1911. They are still active in the civilian market. Though not as big as ARMSCOR/RIA, they still make a small dent in Southeast Asian market, Philippines in particular.

It's funny you guys mention this. We are fully aware of the Floro MK9; but figured them very fugly and were not sure if you guys would be interested.

We are about to make a thread about the Floro and other guns we found, once we can get the poll working in our sub-forum we will start this thread. We have a bunch of guns we need you guys to judge and let us know if you guys are interested.

The laws there are really confusing but civis can have full autos etc.

its not confusing at all actually, civilians can own as many guns as he wants as long as its licensed, even full autos, AK's etc. the only thing is you have to pay for a license individually so it will cost you. also you can acquire a permit to carry for a handgun and a full auto.

That is why I like it....

I'm pretty sure everyone who can afford it is a sport shooter there, they have some amazing gunsmiths too.

They do. In fact, down south, far south of Manila, underground gun manufacturing exists. They make revolvers, 1911s and even micro Uzis. The only problem is they do not have quality control. They look good but depending on who actualy makes it, looks can be deceiving. Fire at your own risk. Gun laws sounds convincingly good, but too many loopholes. Best gunsmiths are in Manila with few more in some other cities. Number of sport shooters locally? Too many to count. One of the best ever produced was Jethro D, one of the fastest speed shooters in the 90s.

The Philippines appears to be loaded with small manufacturers turning out guns of various quality. Can anyone here fill us in on what is going on there?

The right to bear arms and sane gun laws. That's what's going on.

License to carry is handed out, just gotta pay the fees.. The only thing I don't like is that if you carry, you must do so with a clutch bag. Yes, you need to carry your gun in a freakin' MAN PURSE, no IWB holster for you. :(

1911 is a religion. It's everywhere.

There is even a village called Danao that is the filipino equivalent of Khyber Pass. They make anything and everything there. skilled craftsmen, but I recommend bringing your own metal.

Definitely, bring your own metal for these cannot be sourced out locally. Also, better tools. Most of these craftsmen uses drill, file, hammer, crude furnace for crude forging, saw and very basic hand tools. Very few of them has access to older lathes and milling machine. But if you would closely inspect the finished product, only minute flaws can be noticed by an expert eye without firing the weapon. But once fired, that is a different story. There was once a rumor that an Asian mafia was the major customer of these craftsmen. To a point when smuggling was very rampant and the government tightened its ports, these end-users actually recruited the best craftsmen and brought them out so they can continue production with better tools and no issues in smuggling these out of Philippine ports.

Does this mean each firearm is registered?

Yes, each firearm is registered and renewed regularly. Unlike here, all you need is a R/PAL so you can buy anything within your restrictions. Licence is renewed every 5 years and you do not have to re-register your firearms after a certain period. I wish they would open the licensing of the "Prohibited Class" on a limited and case-to-case basis so we can avail of full-autos and compact pistols.

not really, you can tuck a loaded gun in your waste as long as its not obvious(bulging) its legal or beside you in your car as long as its not visible( cover it with a facetowel etc.
