recoil pads

I've used all three and like all three. For looks the Decelerator gets the nod, but the Limbsaver soaks up the recoil a bit better. The application would be the deciding factor for me.

I have a strong preference for the Old English Decelerators, they absorb recoil well, look good, and are easier to fit than the others. I have a Remington with the R3 pad that is already deteriorating so the super soft pads are not for me.

I'd go with the Decelerator, it looks more appropriate on that Marlin. The Limbsaver will absorb more recoil, but I'd compromise just a bit for the aesthetic value.

I got a .300 Winchester off a friend who couldn't shoot it with the hockey puck on the stock. I bought it, replaced the pad with a Decelerator and he tried it again. It never bothered him after that. I also had a T3 in .338 Federal that was just nasty to shoot. I was at the range one day with another fellow shooting a T3 next to me in .300 WSM. We traded rifles for awhile and he hated mine, it kicked too much. I loved his, it had a Limbsaver on it. Both work well for what their supposed to do as far as I could tell.

I have installed thousands of recoil pads. With many of them super soft 'special' pads ...

Pachmayr's Decelerator pads are the nicest in my opinion. Ground to fit the individual stock. Look the best, last the longest.

So...which company makes a specific 'factory fit' recoil pad that actually fits the make/model it is specified to fit. I find the Limbsaver site lists several pads that do not, in fact, fit the stock, without modification, when this is not the stated case. I've had to return pads that didn't fit. I believe this is beyond their control with variations in models and templates, but who, in your experience, makes the best 'factory pre-fit' versions of said recoil pads? I don't care who makes the recoil pad as long as it fits the rifle it is purported to fit. :)

I think it depends on the rifle. If you had a factory Remington synthetic stock for example, they offer their squishy pad that should be a perfect fit. You can buy a Pachmayer pad that is a grind to fit, and make it fit yourself with a pencil and a benchgrinder.

Therein lies the problem. I'm not a 'grind to fit' rifle owner. How hard can it be for these guys to make an item that fits a specific butt template? I see a business opportunity here for an enterprising person. I will be their first customer for a number of rifles...
