Sorry I have looked around but i can't find any dealers in canada with a Vietnam War styled ar15 for sale does anyone know where one could purchase this ar15 set up in canada?

h ttp://www.jgsales.com/century-c-15a1-sporter-ar-15-style-rifle,-223-caliber-c15a1.-p-4074.html

on a side note did anyone else know that century arms who imports a lot of the ak-47/74s in the US started out as a Canadian company based in montreal?

About your only option would be to find something on the secondary market, maybe an SP1?

AFAIK nobody is currently importing retro styled AR's as there is no demand for them.

errr almost like the a2 version of the ar15 although stag arms makes one that you can get in canada. Not to be a super fudd but I wish people would also appreciate guns that didn't have quad rails everywhere on them.

The Stag has a flat top upper with case deflector, and has a detachable carry handle. The sights on the carry handle are also not the same as those found on the A1. It comes with an A2 flash hider and round hand guards. The A1 had none of these features.

If you just wanted a 20" barreled AR without rails, you should have said so. ;)

I plan on getting both in the future but was wondering where I could find an a1 version or if I would have to try and get one specially imported/ make one from after market parts from the states (not sure how to do this legally yet)

If you want something really close to an A1, get a Colt SP1. They pop up in the EE from time to time, and only run around $1100.

Also, forget about importing a rifle/parts from the U.S. It's prohibitively expensive and time consuming, considering similar things are already available here.

I have 2 of them (not for sale) and would buy more if the right ones come up for sale. They are in demand by people like me and you and many others. Last year I sold 1 that I had for 25 years and regretted it the minute I did the deal. Keep looking, they are out there. If ones comes up, grap it quick.

The upper may be from an SP1 but the barrel is not, wrong profile and twist rate.

True...I have a 1976 SP1 and mine is marked .223 and I believe it's a 1/12 twist w/ a 20" barrel (haven't brought it out of the safe in a while so the brain is somewhat rusty on it).

Colt produced these in the mid/late 80's for the civilian market. They used A2 heavy barrels with the fast twist rate on spare A1 receivers to use them up. This upper will give you the look of an M16A1 because of the A1 forward assist, and being a Colt is a bonus because there seems to be some cache associated with Colt for many people. It is a good value if you have the right large pin lower and want to be able to shoot the heavier 69-77gr bullets. It would make a nice retro/vintage service rifle match rifle.

Not sure if I'm willing to sell, but what would an UNFIRED Colt-made SP-1 go for?
Unfortunately, no box for it.
