AR Forgrips and kneeling positon question - options and opinions

Like I said before, the reason, and the only reason, people hold on to the magwell is that regular C7/M16 barrel is not free floated. The POI can change up to 6-8MOA if you force it with aggressive hold like what you said. That's why in an all military shoot like the CFSAC, everyone holds on the the magwell - and that practice has its root in the military where plain jane non-free floated C7/M16s had been used for aeons.

Know your weapon construction, figure out what you need to achieve, and pick the appropriate technique.

Starting service rifle next year as well. I am using a normal grip on the handguard currently, but my current setup is not free floated. Based on this info it looks like I am in the market for one:D

This is the best thing to come out of this whole thread.

Why, so you'll have a dedicated place to call any technique or method you disagree with 'rediculous'?

The show is called "Tactical Impact" and they do infact use that rediculous grip on all rifles, regardless: of where the sites are located, shooting position or distance too the target.

And the two monkeys that do it are supposed to be ex-pros.

Kyle Dafours supposedly used to be a seal and an Aussie that is supposed to have been SAS.

I think you're mistaken. They do not use 'that' grip on all rifles. In fact, I know you're mistaken.

Are you calling Larry Vickers a monkey? And Kyle Defoor? And Jason Falla?
All of them monkeys?

So you dislike police, for some unknown reason.... And now it seems like you have something against the elite war fighters as well. Did they not let you be a part of their group? Did they bully you, steal your lunch money?

Wow. Are you this bitter and angry in real life, or just on the internet, behind your keyboard?

I know your right!! but.....I was going to use this excuse to justify it to myself.....I have been stockpiling ammo so practice is going to be plentiful either way:D

Wait a minute, you are going to be competing too. I highly recommend doing nothing to improve your rifle, you technique nor wasting your valuable time with practice.

Also, never say you are "stockpiling ammo"......too late, the helicopters are probably already circling your present location.

You have been kicking my a** all season in service CQB!! I need all the competitive advantage I can get!!:D

Seriously, the biggest thing I could do to improve my shooting for Service next year is going to be getting my butt on the treadmill and losing a few pounds!!

Or I will be laying on the ground after the 100yard run down doing this cp:

There's nothing supposed about it. They are reputable instructors with legit backgrounds to support their shooting methodology.

The other day I saw this guy on TV holding his hockey stick a little differently than I do, Wayne Gretzky or something.... claims he was in the NHL. Pfffft!

You and me both. Ugggg, exercise. I have a dim memory of that from high school. And I had decided a long time ago that running was a really stupid way to get from here to there. I'm not Forest Gump for chr*st sake.

I know, LOL I hear you. I told my wife I was going to be starting running in the park next to my house over the winter to get ready and well she hasn't stopped laughing yet.....So I haven't quite made it out running but I did get in some pistol shooting this morning at least!

I put together a work out room in our house and gained 10 pounds since I started running and working out. lol the last 5 years behind a desk and the last 2 being married to a woman who loves to cook have made me a softer, doughier, older person. lol

Feels great to be working out though. I've lost some inches and feel stronger. I've never run for exercise in my life, but it's starting to feel natural, I actually enjoy it!

Best of all, my shooting is getting better!

Guaranteed, Kyle Defoor and Jason Falla are not using a grip which prevents them from using their sights.

It should be easy to verify...are they able to hit their targets with a high degree of accuracy? If so, they're using the sights, and you're mistaken about whether their grip is generating problems. If the grip is not interfering with the sights, and it is helping them to mitigate recoil, then it's not stupid at all.

Bearing that in mind, anybody recall offhand if Kyle Defoor and Jason Falla can hit targets effectively with various rifles? I can't think of any time I have heard of either of them having issues but it happens that I have never trained with either of them...maybe there's something nobody's telling me. Everyone I can think of that has trained with them has implied that they can shoot pretty well. Thinking of Defoor's standards...I have to lean towards the "yep, he shoots fine" side of things, myself.

I therefore conclude that the criticism we're hearing of this "retarded grip" is based on a bunch of misconceptions and a lack of knowledge and understanding of shooting, not the other way around.

Guys keep it polite. No more wild talk about lanes either. It confuses us non lane people.

Thanks :p

DAMN!!!

I arrived late to a thread where Larry Vickers is being called a monkey and a so called ex-pro?

And now we can't tell anyone to get back in their lane?

I miss all the fun.

No, no lane allowed. Short bus only please. Thanks :p

Yeah, enough with the lanes. We are not driving or bowling.

Okay I think there is a consensus on the following

1) the risk of the magwell bursting on an AR is slim enough that it is not a real concern

2) the magwell grip has limitations with respect to muzzle recovery an transitioning through multiple targets....but still has it's uses

3) a forward support hand position is better than magwell grip in lots of situations the above but has some limitations

4) the front knee between mag and grip is the steadiest kneeling position (nobody offered an alternative yet)

5) there is no 100% correct for everybody in every shooting situation position to hold a rifle. To borrow from Hungry - your #### won't fall off no matter what you do.

Anything I am missing related to the original topic.

Anything I am missing related to the original topic.

It's always situation dependent.

Some on here are talking about CFSAC gaming, others about CQB and others about longer range precision.

What ever situation you find yourself in will usually dictate.
