Thank goodness no one was hurt, thats the main thing.
You can always get another gun.... hard to replace the body though.
Saw a 1911 let go like that many years ago, driver was not so lucky, needed a bunch of stitches.
Sometimes when a gun lets go, any gun, it can be disastrous.
 
Jesus! That is some bad poo!!! Glad he didn't get hurt. Look at the bright side, he's gonna get you a new one and you get to break it in again:)
 
That sucks dude. But at least the gun took the blast and not the hand/face. Good engineering or just blind luck, either way metal/polymer is replacable.
 
Kabooms seem to be attributed to Glocks only. I guess not. :p
Though Glocks seem to fair the best when they do "Kb!", I've seen some nasty 1911 and revolver pics.
