so, since a .45 case can be made from a .308 or .30-06 case, and a .50BMG is an enlarged (about 169%) .308 couldnt a skilled person make a giant 1911 using shot gun slugs for projectiles out of cut down .50 cases?

aside from making every part, is there a reason this couldnt be done? any specific problems? i guess getting the springs right would be hard, and it wouldnt see alot of use, but as a cool giant demo unit it would be great

There is a company in the U.S. that makes an slightly enlarged 1911 that fires their ,50 GI cartridge.
But that cartridge is not based on a .50 BMG. Given the tools & skills, it could be done. Who knows, maybe it exists already.

They also make a .50GI top end for a Glock.

no no, not a .50 bore, but a .50BMG case cut off well below the shoulder with a roughly .75 bore, enlarging every dimension of every part by about 169% exactly to opposite of brownings new .22 mini

Why would you cut down a 4-5$ case?

to make custom ammo for a gun that would require custom made replacment parts if anything went wrong?

it wouldnt be a shooter, i bet 20 or 30 cases would let me fire it as much as i could handle for the rest of my life

the slide would be about 1.75" wide i would think, mags would be about an inch wide if they were single stack, it would be a 2 hander for most basket ball players

the point is to have a really cool unique display type deal sort of like the huge cutaway BARs around

Found this on another forum, I don't know if its real and I realize it isn't a 50-based semi auto 1911, rather a single shot pistol in .50bmg using a 1911 frame... but neat nevertheless.

Hellboy would have trouble shooting the damn thing...

It would still make for a great piece of mechanical art.

Makes me think of this monster.

i get what your saying. i love it. it would have to be a hell of a huge framed gun to be an autoloader with .75 rounds. sounds wickedly awesome.

The standard .50 BMG round is longer than the barrel of most 1911's, they would produce a huge amount of re-coil and would be expensive.
For those reasons I'm out.;)

Well this is officially the silliest thing I have heard all day, and I have heard some pretty ridiculous things today.

Why not pick a not so retarded chambering? They already make a .500 S&W, lets see you fit that in a magazine! There is a reason they only come in revolvers!

Just for a second imagine the size of the cartridge you intend to manufacture. Cutting the cartridge at the shoulder would leave you with a 3 inch case! Add a bullet even if it is only protruding a half inch means a 3 1/2 inch magwell, or even a wadcutter means you need a 3 inch mag well minimum! Imagine how large the frame would have to be! How would anyone even hold this gun?

Just sayin............
