What brand of rifle to choose for greatest accuracy??

I am in the market to purchace another .204 rifle. I have a Ruger MK11 Hawkeye ultralight. I bought this rifle through S.I.R, now Cabelas. The salesman I was talking to never told me it was an ultralight, with a 20 inch pencil barrel. It shoots fairly well out in the field I get 1" groups at 100yrds with reloads, and it is light enough to carry all day. But I would like to get a rifle which is more accurate. Any suggestions on other rifles like Cooper, Kimber, Tikka, Remington, TC, Howa, CZ, Browning, etc would be great. I am looking at a 24" heavy barreled varmint, but with all the options out there, it would be nice to hear some feedback (Pros/Cons) from knowlegeable people that own one of these firearms. Thanks in advance.

It all depends how much you want spend. The Kimber and Cooper do shoot well but they are worth a lot more then anything else. I have a Ruger MKII Target that I am very impressed with, it constantly shoots sub half inch at 100yrds. Averaging .350" groups with the loads it likes for this gun the hotter the better. So far the best load has been a 24gr Hornady NTX with 29.4gr of X-terminator behind it with a magnum primer. These bad boys come out at 4589 fps and literally X-Terminate any varmint.

The CZ also looks like a nice rifle but I can't stand that huge clip hanging out the bottom. I'm a drop out floor plate kinda guy.

I'll second the Savage M12 LRPV. Mines a duel port. Mines almost shot out now. I'm pretty excited to get a new barrel. Even though I don't think a match barrel will be any more accurate then the factory Savage one my rifle had.

Here is a group I shot at 320 yards. Its 11 shots.

Its shot consistently at around 1/2 MOA for its whole life. Some times a lot better then 1/2MOA.

Go and get yoursel a TC Icon Precision Hunter in 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor, best kept secret of the industry, no need to customize, it is sooo accurate, here is a picture of a 10 shots group at 200 metres, not to bad for a 900.00 rifles... Cheers. JP.

Well guys I have ordered myself a early Christmas present from Roger at Shooters Choice! A .204 Kimber 84M varmint.:dancingbanana: I am worse than a kid in a candy store, can't wait to get it and mount this lonley Bushnell 4200 6x24x40 on it, the bushnell has been waiting for a rifle like this for some time now. Then I will have to wait until spring to develop a load and I hope it shoots like a lazer! I will keep you all posted. Really? How many rounds down the tube? What makes you think it's shot out?
 
Well I can only compare Savage and Remington barrels. I think my most (just barely) accurate factory barrel is on a Savage and I know my least accurate factory barrel is on another Savage.

Is there seriously an accuracy difference between Remington and Savage factory barrels?

Its a total crap shoot. Its easier to spin an aftermarket barrel on a Savage though and get it shooting.
 
In the last week, myself and two friends have had our three Tikka rifles in 6.5x55 to the local range. Each of the three rifles shot a sub 1/2moa five shot group on their very first outing. The worst five shot group that mine shot today was .660", and that was in a stiff breeze in freezing temperatures. The abundance of plastic may make them look cheap, but they have great triggers and they are accurate.

Its been shot just over 800 times now. It has some copper in the barrel that just won't come out. Only thing I can think is that its starting to fire crack. I'm not sure though. It still shoots very well.

Unless all of that shooting was rapid fire, the barrel should be fine for a long time. As far as copper fouling is concerned, I haven't found any that CR-10 could not remove.
