Can I order a pistol online and have it shipped to my house without belonging to a range (no need to get ATT)? I am going to get a membership to silverdale in the new year but ive been going every other weekend with the day passes. Want to order my first handgun now!

Yes. I did exactly as you are asking. No problem. Now that's here in Ontario. It may be different for other provinces depending on their CFO's.

I just ordered a Glock21 and had to have a range membership in order to get it. I'm in B.C. Though. Maybe different where you are. I actually spoke with the cfo here and there is no going around this issue. I usually pay drop in fee at a range here or go as a guest as I'm on a waiting list for the one I'd really like to join but they still demand I be a full time member.
the att is only to move the thing around
ie: taking from store to home is what the att will say when you purchase
if you have your rpal you can walk in, make your choice, pay for it then talk with the seller to make sure if you need to call rcmp or they will (i would follow up anyways)
you get your att to pick it up to take it home then it stays in your safe according to storing regulations untill you join a club which will get you the att
if its your first local police will be notified and make an appiontment to come by and see how you store it
all that being said i dont see why if its being delivered right to your door you would need an att
call the number of the site and ask but im sure your fine provided you have your rpal

In SK (and AB I believe) they ask for a copy of your range membership for your first restricted purchase.
Thanks everyone for the help. I am from Ontario, and do NOT wish to invite a police search into my home for my first restricted purchase; Is this common practice? nothing to hide, but I don't want to waste my time.

The business is going to need more information than just your PAL #.
In addition to dealing with the business, it is entirely possible that you will be speaking with the ON CFOffice.
Just follow your nose through the procedure.
I purchased 3 restricted firearms here in Ont before joining a club .
When talking with the CFC for the transfer I said that I intended on joining one of my local clubs at a later date.
Then got an Ont wide 5 year ATT when I joined a club . If someone else in your houshold has an ATT already they can transport your firearms to the range .

You have more will power than me. I would have gone squirly if I had to look at an AR and Sig for 8 months before putting bullets down the pipe. I have had my first restricted for a week now and am having panic attacks because I cannot go to the range till weekend after New Years.
You DO NOT need to be a member of a club in order to purchase a restricted in ONTARIO. Stop with this s**t. I owned 4 restricted before joining a club and my first transfer went through within 4 hours.

I live in Ontario and I have recently bought and obtained 5 restricted handguns all bought over the phone from an Ontario firearms dealer. I did NOT have the police come to my house, I have never heard of them having to do this before your first purchase. In Ontario, the store only has to put down that you are a target shooter (along with your place of birth, RPAL #), you do not need to have a membership to a range. I do not yet have a membership to any range but I am in the process of trying to join one (waiting for them to offer the safety course). If you are buying from another province ask the store to put down that you are a target shooter and plan to join a club. Ontario CFO just wants to know that you are a target shooter and not a collector. I have done this 5 times since June of this year.

You can buy a restricted firearm in Ontario even if you are not a member os a club. You will not be able to apply for an ATT. The club will do it for you. As mentioned above, go ahead and buy as your PAL will allow you to get within your restrictions. But until you get into a club and ATT processed, it will sit in your safe, quietly. And all you can do with the firearm is dry-fire, dry-fire and dry-fire. And maybe clean, clean, and clean without firing your first live round.
