No love for the P30?

I recently started a thread to inquire about pistols for small handed people. I got plenty of useful info & replies.

However, no one mentioned the HK P30, which the lady at the gun shop proposed yesterday. It looks very convenient with the ambi slide lock and trigger guard mag release, and HK is a high profile company.

Is the high price point keeping people away or is there some other nefarious downside that keeps it off peoples' list?

Thanks!

Only the price IMO. Also mags are super expensive ( about 85$ each ) and parts/spare are hard to get.

I had a P30L 2 years ago. Never had anything negative to say about this fine pistol. Grip is one of the best out there.

Only minus for me is the too long slide release levers. Sometimes they get pushed down accidently with the thumb leaving you with a close slide on the last round. Not good. So make sure you reload not empty or watch you thumbs rest.

Very accurate pistol I have to say.

Cheers.

There are many dedicated adherents of the HK P30. It just happens to cost about twice that of a S&W M&P or a Glock 17.

I have a P30L now and I've also owned most of the pistols with small grips options (glock gen 4, m&p, sr9, etc). Ruger SR9 the winner. P30s are very expensive unless you get a deal on the exchange as I did. the long slide release is a problem for gripping and like me others have found they need to modify their grip or the slide will close on the last round.

It's been said...expensive gun, expensive mags.

Also, some people, particularly handsome ones with impressive sideburns, tend to have problems with HK triggers.

I'm sure there is a way to get used to them but my reaction to HK pistols is always the same...you Germans are great engineers that apparently don't shoot at all, or you wouldn't have put this trigger in this otherwise awesome gun.

Long hk trigger reset as usual. Its a nice improvement from the p7 psp tho. If only the Germans invented a srt kit for the hk pistols... Scratch that I still prefer my full metal frames :)

Every time I shoot an H&K, I feel that somehow it looks down on me...it's like it believes deep down in it's core that I am some form of untermensch every time I shoot low and left.

For people like me who do not describe themselves as operators, have never fast roped and who are not wearing Oakleys, It's hard to shoot a HK without getting the feeling that given the chance, it would leave me for the first SEAL that came along .

Most of us are simply unworthy of the H&K...each time I handle one it's a reminder that I suck, and it hates me.

^^LOL!

Owning an HK is like dating an uber hot chick way above your level.

You know you'll never be good enough for her.

She knows that you'll never be good enough for her.

It's a never ending cloak of failure that you have to wear until you either figure out her trigger or you punt her expensive ass to the curb.

I'm still trying to figure out the trigger on my P2000. I'm getting better, but deep down I know I'll never ever be good enough for her.:D

Wolverine has the P30S in stock, if that is what you're looking for.

Awesome pistols.

No doubt they are a little more expensive, but it is what it is. You gotta pay to play.

Spare parts are not that hard to get in Canada. I have quite an extensive spare parts kit, with at least 5 extra of each and every part in the P30 (both DA/SA and LEM models). In my experience though, HK rarely need repairs.

The only thing that needs improvement however are the stock sights. I put Heinie Straight Eights on all of my personal P30's.

I prefer the "S" models with the ambi safety's.. even on the LEM's. The slide release is shorter on both sides, and I ride the safety while shooting like a 1911. Very very accurate as well.

Mag release is akward, and you have to pull the trigger back a mile and a half. Grip is great. Sights kinda suck. For the money there are better choices out there

Wanted to try one forever, when I finally did it was disappointing. Not that it was bad in any way (the mag release is just something to get used to), but it just didn't feel like it was worth it's price, simple as that.

The mag release it easy to get used to. The sites and grips I found good. The looooong trigger pull however does take time to train, especially if your used to striker fired guns or single actions. I have an LEM P30L and i changed the hammer spring to make the trigger lighter. It's never gonna be Glock potential light but the gun is a nice change from Glock domination (I also love Glocks but everyone needs some competition).

Moustache guy is a pro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at his two ayes wide open and right hand locked with light support of left hand.
This guy would eat you alive, hot shots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP Here.

The "akward" mag release is precisely what made me settled for one of these. I simply couldn't find a traditional handle button release that I could reach without using my second hand or shifting my grip. In timed events where you need to eject while reaching for your next mag, being able to do that saves me 1 or 2 seconds every reload.

I got the P30LS. External safety so you can holster it cocked & locked (thus avoiding the 1st single action), and long slide do I can legally have a flush barrel.

We'll see if it withstands the test of time, but so far I'm liking it a lot.
