Remingtons don't shoot...... revisited.

50 yard groups don't count.:p

I have never said tbey dont shoot. Just that my bone stock $270 Stevens 200 shoots just as good or better!

No bedding! No fancy scope and lapped rings! Just a $150 Bushnell Banner!

Oh and mine shoots 5 shot groups as well!

Those ar 1 inch squares/circles! ;)

Yes, You can tout all your Savages and Tikkas, but anyone who disses the Remington 700's ability to shoot is trying to put out a bush fire by pi**ing on it!!
Sure, the odd one is a bit finicky, but Remington has no monopoly on that problem.
True, once in a while one shows up with a small defect, but again, so do others.
But my gun safes are full of Remington 700's, and I will continue to add them when an interesting one shows up. [BTW, I do own a couple of Savages and 1 Tikka]
Some of my bone stock [unaltered] M700 Remingtons would astound you.
For example, I have a "Classic" in 300 Savage, that will consistently shoot the 150
Partition into ½moa or less, with the best 3-shot group measuring a measly .040"
I just looked over the last 25 targets I shot with my 700SSDM 30-06.
The average for those 25 groups is just shy of ¾moa. This is with 150, 165, 180 and 200 grain bullets!!
BTW, Nice shooting, chuck!!Eagleye.

Bedding the recoil lug, lapping the rings, and loading your own is now considered rocket science I see.

No but apparently shooting a multiple 5 shot groups to prove more consistent accuracy is! ;)

In the end I have owned both, and I honestly I really don't care what brand of gun I am shooting. If I can find a Remington that shoots better than a Savage I own I will sell the Savage. Pretty simple stuff. That said I don't own any Remingtons right now. :p

And no doubt your restocked Remington is a nicer looking gun than the factory Stevens, that is not even a question in my mind, but in the end this thread is about accuracy. It wouldn't take much to restock the Stevens and still come in a couple hundred dollars cheaper.

I actually bought the Stevens with the intention of doing just that, as well as re barrelling it, and turning it into a project, but when it shot so well I decided it would be wrong to f**k with.

Eventually I sold it to a happy friend, and I ended up buying a Savage 12 BVSS which didn't group as well  with the initial load testing, and I eventually sold to fund something else as I didn't have time to play at the range and reload so much anymore.

The reactions about the look of my former gun are pretty funny though. I love getting them, and having guys tell me what kind of exotic wood they have in there stock, or how much their guns cost. It's like they keep telling me how big there #### is, but their wife is begging me to #### her behind his back. Something just isn't right there.

I never heard anyone say that. I thought it was taken for granted that they do.

X2, never heard many complaints about their accuracy, and Savages and Tikkas seem to be just as accurate

This thread is going south real fast, don`t even want to think about archie or kevan getting thier fancy`s tickled.:p

Ya just had to go queerin' this up eh? :D

FWIW in my limited gun owning/reloading career, I havent had a "bad gun"...just guns that took a little more load workup than others. Im not saying there isnt any bad guns out there...just that I havent had the chance to own one yet.

My last Model 7 SAUM was about the worst. Took me 5 or so range sessions to find a load that hits a good speed and is accurate. It was blowing primers and getting stiff bolt lift with the powders I was running. I was gonna chock it up to "remington syndrome" and sell it for parts, till I consulted Big Stick over on 24 hr...

61.5 grains of RE22 and I'm smokin a 162 Amax along at 2985 fps with no pressure signs....lifes good.

I have to laugh and laugh and laugh that I no longer own any more remlys. They are just like the 1911 hanguns. If you add enough aftermarket stuff and do enough gunsmithing to them some of them begin to shoot like real good.

1948 722s.a. 300sav.,721 06,72bdl.270,early700mtn pencil barrel .280,700xcr7mmrm. All cut the previous shot after shot after shot after shot and so on hole, no mods to any of them. But lh bdl 700 06 shoots any factory or hand load by the 20 box into one slightly larger than .308 sized hole. No HYme of mine or m70 win. has abetter stock trigger. wether awalker or xmark. although mkv weatherby trigger sears hone to avery nice 3lb break. personaly I prefer the old walker remys.

2nd post & it sounds like such a pile of poop!

Every gun, every load & even every box of factory loads shoot one hole

Sounds like another candidate for the "ignore" list.
